Shared Suffering wielded by undead(ish) character?

Rules Questions

Does Shared Suffering heal creatures that are undead (and cast the spell), or react to negative energy like one?

Is the damage dealt to the target negative energy damage or just regular damage? I know that it only targets living creatures, but there are some effects that make living creatures react to channeling like undead, IIRC.

Edited for clarity.

I figure the damage dealt is negative energy damage.

As to if it were wielded by undead, reading the spell description again makes me think that (at most) the target would take damage equal to the relevant ability modifier of the caster.

My reasoning is that, since undead (and undeadish, like dhampirs) take no damage from negative energy, there is no damage there to be shared. However, since it adds the ability modifier to the damage suffered by the target, they would suffer that. (0 + x = x)

So, here's my issue with it. From the spell, "The target takes an amount of damage equal to the damage you took this way"

If the undead is receiving healing from the effect instead of damage, then the damage dealt is 0.

Alternatively, you might interpret "You take 1d6 points of negative energy damage" to mean you take damage instead of the normal healing an undead would receive.
