trouble patching

Am I the only one that can't login? The game says it's out of date, and the patcher keeps erroring out. I uninstalled the game, downloaded a fresh copy, and made sure everything was running under admin rights. Still no luck.

This is a fix for it .. I've posted several times but ...

Similar issues but see my comments in https://goblinworks.com/forum/topic/594/?page=2 about #7 ..

Basically, delete the Pathfinder_Shared.dll and renaming Pathfinder_Shared.dll.OLD to Pathfinder_Shared.dll allowed the patcher to run. Also, when it ran it again moved Pathfinder_Shared.dll to Pathfinder_Shared.dll.OLD but did not create a new Pathfinder_Shared.dll … very strange.

Woot! Thank you very much! That fixed it!

I had a similar problem, and the fix didn't work but did put me on the right track. I tried the steps listed above but when I had no success, here's what I did to get it working again:

- Uninstalled Pathfinder Online
- Renamed Pathfinder_Shared.dll.OLD to Pathfinder_Shared.dll
- Ran the old downloaded PFO_Installer_8_1.exe alpha client as Administrator
- Installed to the same location as before, which was not the default location
- Ran the freshly installed Patcher.exe as Administrator which crashed out
- Deleted the Patcher_Shared.dll file that the patcher created before it crashed
- Renamed Patcher_Shared.dll.OLD back to Pathfinder_Shared.dll
- Ran patcher.exe as Administrator which patched and worked fine at that point

Just like you, I'm not sure why it renames the file and then appears to not use the new one correctly. I also don't understand why your instructions worked for Dan but I had to do a completely clean reinstall and essentially force my way through a crash to get it to work.

In the above you say a clean install but the sequence implies the directory already exists when you run 8_1.exe .. not completely relevant to the following but just noted .. that aside, I know I tried what I suggested with both 8.1 and 8.2 installs since I had both crashing with the update. What I finally posted was from 8.2 crashing .. and that is probably the difference. After your 8.1 install, the steps were the same which is good ..

bottom line seems to be to delete the Patcher_Shared.dll that the updater installs and replace it with the older version.
