will elevation transition hexes be claimable?

Just realized I haven't seen any clear statement on whether we will be able to build POIs (eg watchtowers) in Red X hexes, or if they will be unbuildable like monster hexes. I think when I did the math on hexes available for base camps it works out pretty close if transitions are not buildable, but there could be other explanations for that.

Just looking around in transition hexes, they have a number of large flattened areas and a number of smaller flattened areas. I've assumed that GW has deliberately flattened areas so that something can be placed there. But I don't know if that something is campfires and basecamps only, or POIs and Outposts.

Things are currently set up on the assumption that you can't build POIs in those hexes, but we're still discussing the issue.

If we can build POIs in elevation change hexes, and try to use them to control access to the lands above or below the POIs, then I suspect that those will be some of the most hotly contested hexes in the game.

That seems like meaningful choice to me. :)

Me too.

The idea of having owned hexes above and below the transition, but not being able to own the transition will sometimes cause problems in having contiguous control. But so will badlands and monster hexes of various types. We'll adapt either way.

Agreed. I think that making these hexes claimable makes the game noticeably more interesting for players who want to contest for them. And I don't see any way to stifle the economy or otherwise damage the gameworld on a systemic level by controlling a single pass or plateau.

I've posted this to Ideascale.

Until we know how much a POI will help a group to police traffic through a hex, it's hard to say how much POIs in these hexes would affect the overall game.

Its of great interest to settlements like Keepers Pass where the only access without going 10 hexes around is via a single transition hex :D

Something's up on Ideascale. I'm unable to vote or comment. Is this happening to others?

~edit~ If you find ideascale coming back at you with an 'Oops try again later' message when you attempt to make a comment, vote, or agree/disagree try refreshing the page. Then it might work.

Voted this up, and made a comment. I believe that it is going to be very important on multiple levels to be able to claim and hold the pass hexes.
