This idea came to my after getting a ton of extra cards that we weren't going to keep; a way to sell/use the leftover cards to buy/craft cards from the box that you do want.
So here's the basic idea:
1) Rebuild your deck via the standard rules; including picking from box if you're short.
2) With ONLY the leftover cards you may trade in 3 cards to get a card you DO want; given the following:
3) First card for the trade needs the be the same adventure deck level as the target card.
4) Second card must be the same type of boon as the the target card.
5) Third card must share a trait with the target card.
6) Rebuild the decks with the new card and repeat until you do not or can not continue.
7) Leftovers at this point are returned to box via standard rules.
You should never get in a situation of 'shorting' yourself to allow a pick from the box (that's why specifically leftovers only). This system came to me since this a common mechanic of alchemy/crafting based video games.
How's it sound? Feedback appreciated.

So you're talking about leftover cards you've gathered during a scenario.
I guess my problem is that by doing the trade-in program, you're not really earning them. It is part of the randomness that is part of the game. Like seeing that Blessing of Sarenrae in the Blessings deck and crying because you play Kyra. Or seeing the wizard and cleric encounter the Venomous Heavy Crossbow when you're not at that location and tossing it back in the box. Sure, I'd trade in other cards to get those.
And I guess by trading something that is at least that Adv deck, you've earned that level of card. And I can rationalize using that rule.
It is an inventive method of doing a trade-in. Not completely off-balanced. And as long as all of you agree to it, why not. As long as you are enjoying the game.

I can see it as a house rule. It is similar enough to the Organized Play update mechanic and way better than "shopping" by constantly replaying the same scenario until you get what you want. I like the trait matching, I would not have thought of that. I think I would make it slightly harder, if I were to use a similar rule. Something like:
Exchange 3 cards for 1 card in the box. The card you take from the box cannot be of a higher adventure deck number than the lowest AD# of the 3 cards you are turning in. At least one of the cards you turn in must be of the same type of the boon that you take. At least one trait among the cards that you turn in must match at least one trait from the card you take.

I like this system, but what about this variation:
You are only allowed to "buy" cards left in location decks after a scenario.
For instance, I finish up a scenario, but I found and defeated the villain relatively quickly. Now I rebuild my character deck and use the remaining cards to trade for the remaining boons in the locations. this way there is still the element of randomness, but also a way to make your hand more effective.
