Help Cutting 7 Spears

Serpent's Skull

Soooo. I added a treasure hunt to Skull and Shackles. I pulled it out of Savage Tide 3 it was a small dungeon crawl location jungle ruins. They found the treasure but rather than moving on they want to search more of the larger city. Kicking myself for not adding a time limit. Anyway I want to honor the sand box so I need to flesh out the city. I am considering using 7 Spears but I need to cut it down to size. What encounters are really memorable what makes sense to skip.

How many encounters are you looking for?

I have not read the whole chapter but I am thinking of cutting the number of districts.

I liked E, F, G, and K the most. I would also keep the aquatic encounters for H and I in play too if they feel like swimming or rowing is a good idea.

Though, if you think you are ever going to run this AP, you might want to replace a couple of the named encounters with something else so it isn't the same next time.

The J area is great for the Serpent Skull AP, but I don't know about it's overall fun value just dropping it into another campaign.

You should never ...

spoiler:
pass an opportunity to drop 3 chimeras (area E) on your party :)

You may wish to consider the module Crucible of Chaos by Wolfgang Baur. It's all about the lost city vibe, and it puts together a better inherent story, as well. It's PF 3.5 version, but it translates incredibly well and is an excellent adventure. It's for 8th level characters, so don't know if that'll make a difference.

So far I am planning on cutting out the Tentaguard. The croc encounter at the city entrance (my players came a different way and I needed to change the fluff a little to fit what I had already done).

The Froghemoth and Moleiki and an aboleth seems like too many big thing in the water encounters considering I don't want this adventure to last as long as I would if this were a straight up Serpent Skull group. I am leaning toward cutting the aboleth because there is another encounter with one later in S&S. The Froghemoth scares me because of the high CR I don't want to nerf it to easy mode but I don't want a TPK either.

The other thing I am doing is my pirates brought additional crew so they have another group fighting and discovering things on their behalf. I think I want to cut the rival encampment issues for the sake of complexity. Though I reskinned one of the undead encounters as undead explorers.

So far they have fought a couple of groups of Trogs and a couple groups of humans. Osmond just showed up and offered parlay. Currently my group is 6th level. So I may lower the DCs in diplomacy for securing an alliance or at least delay the Muse's involvement till later if they can't get Osmond to vouch for them.
