So aasimar and tieflings were added in for Season 5 to support WotR, why were 4 Tian Xia races added into Season 6? Especially after Jade Regent is already out and Lantern Lodge has gone away...

Grand Lodge 4/5

Aasimar and Tieflings were added before Season 5, so your question kinda falls apart there.

So we should expect them to tie in to a later season. So for Season 7 then?

Shadow Lodge

Season 7 will likely tie into the Hell's Rebels AP, so don't hold your breath that there will be a wayang/nagaji/kitsune tie in.

Just as non-standard race access is a hot topic on the messageboards, it's a common talking point during our meetings. It's tough to balance the lure of race boons for conventions against letting as many people as possible play the types of characters they want. Add to that the heated discussions about whether or not some non-standard races are overpowered and the concerns about the so-called "cantina effect." That's a lot to juggle when making a decision, but we decided that introducing a few new options would be best for the campaign.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

A number of us are using the explanation that the Ruby Phoenix Tournament was about 3 years ago. During that time, we met the Tien races, and now they've had time to go through Pathfinder Society training. They are now becoming full-fledged agents about the time that we are finishing up with the war in the Worldwound, thus stemming the influx of field-commissioned Aasimar and Tieflings that had been joining.

This is totally "fan fiction" (ie, not official), but it works reasonably well as an explanation.

I also use the justification Tony has, we may be seeing an adventure in Tian Xia in the future. I believe John mentioned this as a possibility in either the blog or the podcast.

Amara Li has had the past year to build up relations with the Way of the Kirin and further solidify her holdings in Goka. Seems like she's had enough free time to help out with the efforts to reach Jormurdun. Time for the rest of us to head back out there then and see just what she's been working on, no?

It looks like they are rotating races in based on previous boons. If they keep with this pattern you are likely to see the elemental races opening up in the future.
