on page 9 of ultimate magic:
A magus begins play with a spellbook containing all 0-level magus spells plus three 1st-level magus spells of his choice. The magus also selects
a number of additional 1st-level magus spells equal to his Intelligence modifier to add to his spellbook.
Yet on page 10 in the chart 1-1
Spells per Day
0 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th
3 1 — — — — —
4 2 — — — — —
Do i go with what the chart or the instructions on the previous page?

No, that is not a misprint.
That "spells per day" chart is how many spells they can cast per day.
That is different from how many spells they can learn at when you first create the class.
Also you get to cast additional spells per day depending on your intelligence. There is a chart for that in the "ability score" section in the core rulebook.

You were clear, you're just not understanding their answers.
In your spellbook you gain 3 + your intelligence magus spells. These are spells you "know" and are capable of preparing and casting.
Each day you can prepare spells from the spells known in your spellbook. This number is dictated by the spells per day table you mentioned. So at level one a magus with 18 intelligence has:
7 spells known (3 + 4 int modifier)
And may prepare any 2 of them (1 for spells per day and 1 additional for having a high intelligence, referenced by wraithstrike)
So one day you could prepare magus spells 1 and 2 that you learned, but the next day prepare spells 1 and 5, because you know 5 will be useful.
