Is a Gem an example of a Phylactery?

e.g Novice's Charge Gem or Disciple's Charge Gem

These are made by artificer and holy symbols are made by Iconographers.

I believe Wizards will eventually consume Charge Gems every time they use a Cantrip, much like Arrows will be consumed for Bow Attacks.

We haven't heard much about that system, and I'm very curious if the entire Charge Gem is consumed for every Cantrip. If so, that will make the decision of whether to use a Wand or a Staff... well... meaningful :)

A phylactery is just a form of object, like a necklace, or amulet, or tiara. The word itself does not imply mystical powers.

Pretty sure I remember comments that charge gems would contain multiple (20ish) charges.

I had thought Gem charges were for clerics. I know this is not in alpha, but by time it hits EE, what do we need to build?

Charge Gems will work like Quivers for bows; instead of arrows, they hold charges. The Charge Gem isn't consumed any more than a Quiver is, but the charges will be.

I should probably put the same or comparable recipes on Iconographer, since Foci are also meant to consume ammo.

Then the resources required to craft sepia crystals and the like will need to be more common than they are currently in Alpha. And for the sake of the small gods we will need some copper!

The word "phylactery" comes from the same origins as "prophylactic", from a Greek root meaning "to guard". If the point of the charge gem is not to safeguard and preserve the charges it holds, then it is not a phylactery.

Yes, we'll need charges and charge gems, or equivalents, on Iconographers; it wouldn't make sense for clerics to be going to Arcanists to power their orisons.

I enjoy reading your posts as they always contain something interesting and/or provocative.

I rather agree...

...given the look in those eyes, however comely the lass, I'd surely trend away. Far away.
