Question concerning the inspiration behind a monster

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Apologies if this is in the wrong section. I'm asking about a creature in the setting, but about its meta origins so I'm not sure if setting discussion is the right place.

There is a creature in the Isles of the Shackles Campaign Setting book known as a Larabay. I'd like to know the inspiration behind it. Its name and general nature make me suspect a mythological origin for it, but I'm not sure. I don't recall ever having heard of it before, (though my knowledge is by no means comprehensive) and Google only leads back to this version. So, I'd like to ask, what was the inspiration behind this one? Is it mythological, completely original, or does is have a different conceptual origin? Perhaps because I'm so terrible at coming up with ideas for non-mythical fey myself, all original fey appear mythological to me. I'm just curious.

As far as I can tell, it's entirely original to Pathfinder. I'd guess some Caribbean or possibly Brazilian influence if any, although it's hard to say.
