Most interesting NPC you've ever seen

One of the great things about being GM is that you get to play multiple characters and don't have to follow the rules of PC character creation.

So, what is the most interesting NPC (idea or actual character) that you've ever encountered?

NPC are encountered from player's perspective aren't they?
Don't you mean interesting NPC you've made as GM?

If yes, i've fleshed out a half-elf combat-maid at a fancy household who's actually their 1st line of defense, wielding an exotic weapon (custom made) and high acrobatics skill.

I meant both, either as a player or GM. You can encounter an NPC idea in your mind after all.

My favorite was from a homebrew I ran years ago: an old woman that would eat dangerous wandering souls that roamed the town at night. The party tracked her down and negotiated one of the spirit's release (held information they needed) in exchange for several trapped souls the party found along the way. Her method of releasing souls and resurrecting their bodies involved pulling long strands of hair from her mouth, bundling the hair together, laying it out on unhallowed ground, and chanting until the spirit rose up from their hair. Everyone had seen at least one version of Ringu, so they were all nice and disturbed.

Carrion Crown NPC ally--my players enjoyed this one quite a bit

Developed an NPC for Carrion Hill that was a lot of fun: a CN ghoul necromancer that constantly chewed on his minions to avoid being "uncivilized" and eating his "colleagues" (two bound and gagged wizards).
