Hey all! Question: what are the WORST magic items for a bunch of mischievous or malevolent fey to get their hands on? I'm working on a "fey civil war" set between the 3rd and 4th acts, and I thought a fey raid on my PC's magical academy could be quite hilarious and/or devastating.
So what's the worst that could happen if you give a bunch of fae free access to a kingdom's worth of magic items?
I don't know if any of these will count as "worst", but here are some suggestions ...
- A feather token (tree) or several, planted at various inconvenient locations around a city.
- An eversmoking bottle and a decanter of endless water placed close to (but not next to) each other in a difficult-to-reach location (such as on a roof, somewhere in an ornate fountain, or close to the top of an unexpected oak).
- A few apples of eternal sleep hidden amid the market produce (assuming that your magical academy would stock such items).
- Drums of panic used in a crowded town square.
- Waters of transfiguration applied to random weapons in the armoury of the city guard, to transform swords to wood and halberds to paper. Also, small parts of the city walls (10 cubic feet) could be transformed into glass (which should help the populace's sense of security).
- Pipes of the sewer played by an invisible performer, for improbable rodent behaviour. (Swarms of rats attending the opera? Or attempting to cast votes at town hall meetings?)
- If this isn't too expensive ... a mirror of opposition smuggled into a tavern, and uncovered and activated just before closing time, for a bar fight that should be quite confusing for the guards who have to collect witness statements afterwards.
- Sovereign glue, used overnight to stick parasols, waffle irons and collapsible bathtubs to the castle walls, and to glue statues sideways across the main city gates (at about three feet from the ground). This will work best if all the local supplies of universal solvent can be stolen too.
