DnD 5e has it's new Organized Play model

4th Edition

The link to their Player's Guide is here: http://media.wizards.com/downloads/dnd/ADVLeague_PlayerGuide_TODv1.pdf

Looks to me like a less hardcore PFS with very similar elements. There's not a lot of support for online play, which is a shame. But this is what PFS players will be sitting next to in a few weeks, maybe even Wednesday.

What do you guys think?

An evil alignment is allowed. That's awesome.

Sovereign Court

Well only Lawful Evil, for some specific things.

Like the use of certs for magic items and making some of them (however many who knows yet) things you can trade.

Now if only it wasn't in the Realms, ugh.

For two factions that every character gets access to.

You can also craft! I'm absolutely marking that up to another win by way of restricting magic items.

Their tiers of play bit hints that they'll be writing adventures the gamut from level 1 to 20 which is really cool.

If anyone here is interested in playing online, I'm trying to get this Google Group off the ground, modeled off Pathfinder Society Online Collective. Adventurer's League is still brand new, but it should grow pretty quickly.

So I have tried the Adventurers League twice in the past week and walked away really disappointed. It was not the rule system that was the issue. It was that tactical maps and mini's were optional. Both games the GM's did not use a tactical map and mini's because they said that was a strength of 5e. But what it ended up being was a very confusing mess with the GM having to re-explain to each player on their turn what they can see and where they could go. In one game that was supposed to play out in 1 hour it ended up lasting 2.5 hours.

So, I’m dropping Adventures league due to I like mini’s and tactical maps and I’m just going to get lots of games where GM’s decide they are not needed.

My home game players are stuck on Pathfinder so it looks like 5e does not have a place in my gaming life due to the options each GM has in Adventurers League.

The Exchange

Rosier, is it just the place you went for league play? Where I currently DM for league play we run one table with maps and minis (the one I DM) and one for free form. You could try suggesting that to the shop/ venue organiser. Might be better than giving up completely.

So far the whole thing is very loose. No real organisation at all in terms of overarching league people. Lots of gear went into it though, in terns of faction folders and certificates. The first module is also really good (hoard of feh dragon queen).

The way they've sorted xp for this one has really given me freedom to modify the encounters to suit the party. Not such a competive feel as PFS, especially since magic gear is rare, and far from essential or overpowering.

Cheers
