A while back, some years ago, I started a thread on this page where I created four characters, and then posted “story-like” elements related to the adventures of these characters and asked for others to post suggestions for what should happen to them next given a short list of options,
It wasn’t very successful
So I had an idea for trying it again, but with a new twist.
Would you like to hear my idea?
Okay –
I will play the four characters, a Fighter, a Wizard, a Cleric, and a Rogue. I will post as these characters, and these characters only.
Anyone else can post as a Dungeon Master, with the following restrictions
1) You cannot “undo” what has been done by another Dungeon Master
2) You cannot post as a Dungeon Master twice in succession, that is, if you post a ruling, requirement for a roll, a set-up, description, or hook, you cannot post again until another player has made a post as a Dungeon Master. There is one exception: if you introduce a “combat challenge”* you can continue to post attack rolls and damage rolls as new posts even when another Dungeon master has not posted, until the combat is resolved to your satisfaction.
3) You can post as any NPC you want to create, and you can control that NPC as if you are a Dungeon Master
4) As an NPC you can post as many times as you like
The game will be played as if the four characters are exploring some setting, to be first established by the first person to post as a Dungeon Master. Every post made in the game thread should be made by a Character (either one of mine or an NPC) or an alias with the words “Dungeon Master,” “DM,” “Game Master,” or “GM” in the name of the alias, to avoid confusion.
Essentially this will be a game where one player plays four Player Characters and any number of other Players will play as cooperative (or, at times not so cooperative) Dungeon Masters.
*To avoid abuse of this rule, when a Combat Challenge is introduced, the Dungeon Master should list, in the form of a spoiler, all the monsters that will participate, and no “new” monsters will be allowed to join that Combat Challenge under that Dungeon Master.
What do you think of this idea?

I appreciate the dedication and work that went into you original thread....
However. I am going to say it Rotating DMs in play by post quickly becomes a logistics nightmare.
The idea of co-DMs for a game has been something I have wanted to do. Maybe breaking the roles out....storyteller, npcs, links/maps, referee etc.

in this experiment, I will be making smaller posts, as that was more of an experiment in storytelling, and not so much an actual game. I used the decisions made in that experiment as inspiration to drive the story.
I can produce walls of text from even the smallest suggestions. Writing is never a chore for me, and I have been thinking about these characters for a long time

KenderKin here.
I wanted to help you get this going.
Are you selecting the participating DM's?
Are they going in a specific order? (If so then when a DM's turn ends, the next DM can be prompted, either in the discussion thread or via private message).
I suggest you set up the Campaign with all the threads for the sake of discussion/planning. The Campaign info tab is very useful for any pbp game!
