I don't believe most (any?) settlements are choosing initial alignments based on what provides the most mechanical benefit. I think the leave majority of alignment decisions are being made for either roleplay characterization, or based on an expectation that the alignment is the best fit for a specific playstyle.

Yes and no.

We are not seeing a lot of CE settlements regardless how much fun it may be to roleplay :D

That said, there is only one LE settlement even though the developers openly stated it will be the most mechanically optimal from a playable perspective. LG being the most mechanically optimal, but significantly more difficult to maintain than LE.

Ryan also said he expected Neutral Good to be the most popular alignment. Just sayin' :)

I think that's accurate is it not?

Yup. It's a lot of tea leaf reading between the statements we have seen as to which alignment will actually be the "best". I kinda doubt they know themselves.

Alignment Kabal is the best.

I believe he said he expected most player characters to be Chaotic Good.

Aaaaaannnnd... it's actually both.

I suspect that long term there will be 60% of the characters in one or two alignments but they won't change monthly. They'll play the alignment that maximizes freedom of action and access to character development. I suspect it will be chaotic good or neutral good. This will reflect the system working as intended.

This is just my opinion, but I think most people in the real world would more closely fall into neutral good with chaotic good following second. But the region they live in will cause some difference in some places.
