Scarab Sages

And now I suppose I could go get a shower. It scares me a bit how easily I switch back to shiftless layabout mode.

Scarab Sages

Damn, I got a lot of comics. 10,991 and counting.

Scarab Sages

Make that 11,298. And I might have a few more short boxes to go.

Scarab Sages

A bit of serendipity - earlier today was reading Batman: Son of the Demon. Then at dinner I put on Batman: The Animated Series, and the episode that came on was The Demon’s Quest, Part 1.

Scarab Sages

Aaaahhhh…..more boxes!! Boxes everywhere!!!

Scarab Sages

It appears to be Tuesday.

Scarab Sages

My daughter's recovery from flu seems to be going well. Last night she actually ate a semi-decent dinner. She's still coughing a bit, but she's also sleeping better and seems more like her usual self.

Scarab Sages

Meanwhile, the wife is feeling worse. I suggested yesterday that she go to the urgent care and maybe get medicine to help speed up the healing process. She, of course, did nothing of the sort.

Scarab Sages

I'm just trying to hold off catching whatever the crap this is until at least late Friday. I have a test scheduled at the cardiologist Friday morning, and I'd hate to have to reschedule. Especially since I've been waiting a month for it.

Scarab Sages

I wouldn't be surprised if the Universe saves the sickness for me until the very last minute, then ruins my medical plans.

Scarab Sages

I saw an article the other day about Ghost Jobs. These are jobs a company might advertise, but have no intention of hiring to fill. They apparently do it for a variety of reasons: pad numbers, collect and sell information, create a pool of potential candidates. Some states reported potentially up to 30% of jobs as ghost jobs.

Gee, thanks Universe. That's just the sort of thing I needed to hear as I start job hunting again.

Scarab Sages

Still, it squares with some of my suspicions that not all the jobs being advertised on these internet job boards are legit. Some of them, if you look up the company it can't be found. Some of them, you might apply and very quickly get a rejection email. Only to see the same job pop up again soon.

Scarab Sages

And I've got some squirrelly folks sending me connection requests out of the blue on LinkedIn. Typically, unless I know them personally, I refuse.

Scarab Sages

Ugh...Another slow start to a slow day. Yup. I'm definitely in shiftless layabout mode.

And it doesn't help that we have absolutely no plans for Christmas other than the giving of gifts. We're not going anywhere. We're not having anyone over. We're not planning any special meals. At best, I may start my annual watch of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Part of the reason for this is the sickness working it's way through our house. Another part is my brother and his family had plans that took them out of town (Seriously, what kind of a-hole friend's kid plans a wedding this close to Christmas?), and they won't be back until tomorrow.

Scarab Sages

A show I'm watching on YouTube played this Avengers: Doomsday trailer. The one where they announce the next desperation move of bringing back Chris Evans as Steve Rogers (Probably as Captain Hydra. Thanks Spencer, you commie douchebag).

Overall, I was underwhelmed. Granted There really wasn't much to the teaser.

Scarab Sages

Still, I wonder how much what they're paying Evans is going to drive up that already probably vastly inflated budget.

Scarab Sages

Mmmmm...coffee time.

Scarab Sages

Hehehehehe...

The boy wants to get on the computer and play his game, but I'm preventing it. Sometimes, being able to cause minor torment in my children is a small pleasure I indulge in.

Scarab Sages

Ye gods!

I heard from the parent of a scout that he’s almost done with all his Eagle requirements. I just need his letters of recommendation and then they need to get all his paperwork downtown to the SHAC headquarters.

If he makes it, I think that will be either the seventh or eighth scout in the troop to hit Eagle since last April.

Scarab Sages

Aaaaannnddd….I’ve got some Christmas presents wrapped or bagged and under the tree. So it at least looks slightly Christmas in the house.

But only slightly.

Scarab Sages

Happy Wednesday?

Scarab Sages

It is Wednesday, right?

Scarab Sages

Also, HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVE!

Scarab Sages

For someone, anyway. Mine will probably be mid to annoying. Perhaps horrifically so.

It's supposed to be cloudy, but warm, all day. So not too horrid on the weather front. I've got at least two places to go today, however. That's where the unpleasantness will come in to play. I know I've got to make a run over to the grocery store. Plus I'll probably end up going over to Walmart to get some last minute, additional stocking stuffers.

Scarab Sages

However, I've also finally got the appliance guy coming out to the house today to fix the refrigerator. I sent the company a message the other day, and they got back to me yesterday saying they'd have someone out today, between 9-12.

Huzzah!

Scarab Sages

Got a call from my mother yesterday that she received the Christmas Card and gift card I sent her. I was amazed the USPS didn't steal it.

Scarab Sages

Did I mention I've been awake, off and on, since about quarter to 4 this morning? Woke up having to use the bathroom, then for some reason had trouble falling back asleep.

I blame thoughts of what to get as extra stocking stuffers for the children.

Scarab Sages

At the moment, we've only got a few things for each kid's stocking. They'll each get a plastic candy cane filled with M&Ms. The boy will also get a new knife, which'll serve him well on his summer High Adventure trip. The girl will get two Choose Your Own Adventure books.

I don't think that's enough, however. Hence the potential trip to Walmart. And maybe one or two other stores in the vicinity, depending on traffic and crowds.

Scarab Sages

Speaking of gifts....

After everyone else was in bed last night, I remembered the gift the wife and I got for the daughter for Christmas this year - a new, larger easel. And some larger canvases to go with it. The canvases are, too oddly shaped to wrap, but I did wrap the easel. It is now ensconced under the tree.

Scarab Sages

Anyway...I suppose it's time to go finish up the remainder of my morning posts, then get a shower before the scheduled potential arrival time of the appliance guy.

Scarab Sages

Huzzah! The refrigerator is repaired and once again dispensing water.

Scarab Sages

Now I’ve got to figure out something for lunch. Might wait until the wife gets home. She must be feeling a little better, because she got a shower and willingly left the house. She wanted to run over to CVS. Not sure what for, but she said she’d pick up something for the daughter’s stocking so that’s one less thing I have to worry about.

Scarab Sages

Maybe she’ll even find something extra for the boy. That’d save me from having to leave the house at all.

Scarab Sages

Maybe. I’m still not sure about our food situation for today and tomorrow.

Scarab Sages

Nevermind. They didn’t have what she was looking for. Plus she had a bad coughing fit and decided to just come home.

Scarab Sages

NOW my Christmas shopping should be done.

Went to Academy to see about a long handled spork for the boy. Turned around and walked right out. Every one of the check out lines had 12-15 people in it. Screw that.

So then I popped into Kroger (the other place I was going) and was able to find a few more stock stuffers for each kid. And because my wife had me getting dog treats anyway, I bought a new Christmas chew toy for the beast.

Scarab Sages

Plus I picked up a few other items at Kroger. And that store surprised me with just how many people weren’t there.

Scarab Sages

Traffic wasn’t nearly as horrid as I feared it would be either.

Scarab Sages

All of which leads me to believe The Universe is either trying to make up for treating me horribly for the last month, or it’s setting me up for something truly horrific.

Scarab Sages

Ah well. Nothing I can do but wait and see.

In the meantime, I’ll have my afternoon coffee and contemplate either starting my Lord of the Rings watch or reading.

Scarab Sages

Aaaahhhh…Die Hard. One of the all time great Christmas movies.

Scarab Sages

Merry Christmas to One and All!!!

Scarab Sages

Except filthy commies. Since they're supposed to be godless.

Scarab Sages

It's been a typical slow morning here in the zombie household. Didn't even get out of final bed until after 7 am. Had some coffee and toast. By then everyone else was awake, so we opened gifts.

Scarab Sages

I got some decent loot. A new zombie-themed t-shirt and a new flannel shirt from the daughter. A sonic cleaner for my mouthguard from the wife. And a 4K copy of the great fantasy movie Willow from the boy.

I also got a lame cup from the in-laws. That'll probably just go right back in it's box. Then I'll either stick it up on some top shelf of a kitchen cabinet, or into a plastic container (currently located in the attic) for other unwanted and useless kitchen items).

Scarab Sages

If I get a chance I might watch Willow later on today. I've got to get my Lord of the Rings Trilogy started first. And watch A Christmas Story.

Scarab Sages

Other than that, I don't have anything actually planned for today. My younger brother and his family are back in town, but we didn't make any plans with them. We used to, but ever since the Universe decided to consistently visit illness on one or both houses every Christmas, we kind of stopped doing it.

Scarab Sages

I did already spend a little time putting the daughter's new easel together, but that didn't take long. I may break out my new sonic cleaner later and give it a test run.

Scarab Sages

Sad to say, but I'll also probably do at least one load of laundry and some dishwashing today as well. Christmas has become...just another day for us. Except with gifts. And headaches from dealing with the holiday complications. And flu (sadly more often than not).

Scarab Sages

Of course, the bonus this year of not having a job doesn't help.
