Scarab Sages

Had a few text messages from a former coworker. This was a dude who got let go months ago. He also crossed the manager who got rid of the rest of us. He was one of that a-hole’s first victims.

Anyway, the dude was checking up on me, which was nice of him. And we briefly discussed Diablo 4 and the forthcoming expansion pack.

Scarab Sages

Ugh, part 2 (the sequel). Now I have to figure out what to do for dinner. Maybe some grilled Italian sausage.

Scarab Sages

Grilled sausage it is. I’ll probably end up regretting it from a gastrointestinal point, but that’s become like every other day for me now. Sometimes more frequent.

Scarab Sages

Between that and my other health issues, plus other ongoing concerns, I really sometimes dread getting even older.

Stupid Universe.

Scarab Sages

At least the sausage is easy. Tomorrow night we’ll do hamburgers again. Not something I’m overly fond of, but easy. And that’s enough for me.

Scarab Sages

Although….maybe sometime soon I should do kebabs again. Those aren’t too bad. The most challenging part is coming up with a marinade for the chicken. I used to get this pre-made stuff, but the grocery store stopped carrying it.

Scarab Sages

Oh joy! The wife checked the daughter’s temperature. It had hit 102 degF. So she gave the daughter another flu test. This one came up positive for type A.

So it’s probably only a matter of time before we both catch it as well. Gods, I hate this f#%@ing month.

Also, I say again, “F#%@ you, Universe”.

Scarab Sages

Mmmm……Amy Acker.

Not only is she a fantastic actress, she’s a native born Texan!

Scarab Sages

The only sucky thing about this time of year around here - periodically having to switch back and forth between the heat and AC. Very annoying.

Scarab Sages

Happy Sunday?!?

Scarab Sages

We shall see. My daughter got a good night's sleep, and has no fever this morning. So I suppose maybe the worst has passed.

Scarab Sages

Of course, that still leaves my wife and I to get sick. Pretty sure the boy might have had it (or something like it) already.

Now I already feel like crap, but then again I almost always do. And it doesn't help that I slept poorly last night. Nor that I'm under more stress than usual

Scarab Sages

Not much planned for today. We're supposed to get up into the high 70s today. And there may be a bit of sunshine later in the afternoon. So I may have the boy give the dog a bath. She certainly needs it.

Scarab Sages

I might also finally get the Christmas Tree down and set up. Maybe very minimalist this year. Just enough ornaments to say we made an effort.

Scarab Sages

And....NOTE TO SELF....Don't forget to look up spirals in the Dictionary of Symbolism!!!!

Scarab Sages

Off an on, I've been reminding myself to do that for a few weeks now. See how well that turned out?

Scarab Sages

I like to think I'm keeping the spirit of the old FAWTLY thread alive beyond its long ago death. Tons of mindless posting. Reminds me of the old days when we'd drop an entire page (or more) of posts in just one day.

Scarab Sages

CH and I used to have this thing, where he'd post a "What's up?" (or something like that, I forget the exact words), and then I'd respond with one of my now classic "soap opera" posts.

I think that's one of the only things I truly miss about those days. He was a good dude. I see his posts on FB sometimes. Living his best life. Shame I never got to meet him.

Scarab Sages

I did meet some of the real FAWTLY folk back in the day. More than 13 years now. At Paizocon 2012. Not sure what happened to some of them. Still see at least one of them posting on FB, and he occasionally gives a "like" to one of the maps I post on my FB Map page. Jess Door? Disappeared. Hugo? Who knows? Monkey? I think he's around, but only in play by posts. I'm sure there are others.

Scarab Sages

I used to have a piece of art showing all the FAWTLY folk as their avatars. I think it was done by Hugo (Butterfrog?). I may have to try and find it one day, just for the memory of who was who in the group.

Scarab Sages

That was a fun weekend, though. That PaizoCon 2012. I sat at a table with Postmonster General for the dinner that Saturday night. Then, after, we kind of sauntered on over and sat at the table with Sara. That was back when their boy was just a little bitty thing.

Scarab Sages

Oooh...I think I'm finally regretting that sausage we had for dinner last night. Though not as bad as I thought I might. I've really got to cut back on crap like that. Focus more on poultry and no fried foods. Maybe even some more veggies.

I've tried to find a type of frozen mixed veggies at the grocery store. Something that doesn't have stuff I don't like. Such as broccoli. That stuff is nasty.

Scarab Sages

Other than the dog bath and Christmas Tree, there are only a few other things on my plate for today. Whether I get to all of them is questionable.

I want to finish up a map I've been working on, which I'll probably do once I'm done here. And, of course, there's the ever present laundry. I might also try to do some cataloging today. No bagging and boarding though. I'm currently waiting on some more bags and boards to be delivered by Amazon. That should happen sometime tomorrow.

Scarab Sages

Well, that’s one big goal of the day accomplished. The dog is bathed. I let the boy do most of the work, assigning myself to hose duties and then helping dry her off a bit. Now I’ve sent the boy inside while I remain out on the back patio with the dog. She’s leashed to a column and further drying off in the sun.

Scarab Sages

After this, I’ll grab…something…for lunch. Then start on other things.

Scarab Sages

Seems like James Cameron’s latest digital vomit is going to have a big weekend. Kudos to him on maximizing the age-old formula of mindless entertainment.

I’m proud to say I’ve never seen any of this series.

Scarab Sages

Ooh….it’s kind of nice sitting out here in the warm sunshine in the middle of December. I’m wearing my sandals, and have a short sleeve shirt. I would have had shorts on, but was too lazy to change out of my sweatpants.

Scarab Sages

Forgot to mention…..at the grocery store yesterday, I found a bag of mini versions of my favorite type of apple, honeycrisp. It’s the first time I’d ever seen them offered that small. Made me happy, since I wanted to start eating more apples, but didn’t want the larger ones.

With the larger ones, I tended to substitute that for an actual meal. Healthy, but not filling enough. Then I’d end up snacking more. This way, I’m more encouraged to eat regular meals, and can have these as healthier snacks.

Scarab Sages

That said, sadly I don’t have anything else for lunch, so will probably eat an apple.

Scarab Sages

I’m ashamed to say, other than a load of laundry, I haven’t accomplished much since the dog’s bath. I had intended to put up the tree already, but can’t seem to muster the interest.

I blame my apathy in part on being somewhat angry with the month of December in general, and with the Universe’s penchant for visiting Christmas-ruining misery on me in particular.

Scarab Sages

Eventually, I’ll just have to force myself into the tree effort. There won’t be any joy in it. Just…resignation? Maybe.

Scarab Sages

At least the dog smells nice. For a dog.

Scarab Sages

Aaaannnddd…..the Christmas Tree is up. Huzzah.

It took less than an hour. Mostly because (a) I avoided getting all the ornaments down, (b) I went with more sparse decorating consisting predominantly of large homemade stuff and plastic balls, and (c) I did most of the work myself, only getting the boy involved, and only to help me hook and hang ornaments.

Scarab Sages

I also did some more laundry. And vacuumed the front room before putting the tree up. So, tired zombie is tired.

Scarab Sages

Ye gods! I just realized I don’t have a new episode of IT: Welcome to Derry to watch tonight. Not sure if I should be happy or sad about it. Bit of both, I suppose.

Scarab Sages

I was hoping my daughter would be hungry enough to have a burger, but no such luck. She did at least eat a banana. And her temperature (so far) hasn't climbed higher than 99 degF.

Of course, now the wife is coughing a bit more. It's possibly she's finally caught it. Now I suppose it's just a matter of time before I succumb.

F%$#ing December. F%$#ing winter. A bane on this most vile of seasons, and all the misery it brings.

Scarab Sages

Happy Monday!

Scarab Sages

To someone, anyway.

Scarab Sages

At least we're forecasted to have some decent weather for the next week or so. Currently, the weather app is predicting highs in the upper 70s/low 80s and lows in the 60s from now through Saturday.

Then by next Sunday we'll start to get colder and more miserable again. I imagine January will be quite miserable. It usually is.

Scarab Sages

One of the sucktastic things about being out of work (other than not being paid) is that it's very easy to lose track of what day of the week it is. Especially around this time of year, when the kids are out of school so you don't even have that regularity.

Scarab Sages

This is, of course, a problem of my own making. I chose to enter the oil and gas industry, knowing the "age" discrimination to be faced.

Scarab Sages

At least my wife was smart enough to get out of oil and gas when the last downturn left her briefly unemployed. Then again, she was smart enough to move away from engineering into a more QA/QC role. That stuff never goes out of style.

And now she does that for PPE, which also never goes out of style. Sure, it might not pay as well, but it's steady.

Scarab Sages

Not much planned for today. I'll do a bit of job hunting (probably pointless this week, but still). And maybe a bit of mapping. And hopefully some comic book cataloging.

Scarab Sages

That later is the big one. I really need to finish cataloging my collection. Didn't do any yesterday, even though I had said I might. I'm supposed to get 200 more bags and boards today, though. That'll make it easier.

Scarab Sages

Of course, "finished" is the wrong word. As long as I'm still collecting, I'll never be finished. Though if recent reports are accurate, that collecting may come to an end sooner than I had anticipated.

Scarab Sages

Ooohh...I just realized I should have a new omnibus waiting for me at the comic book store this weekend. Sweet.

Scarab Sages

Hmmmm....I don't see it being a good week for my "Weird News Stories" thread. I think the folk who write that stuff must take a week off or something. Good news stories are always easy to find. Weird ones, though...

Scarab Sages

And I refuse to count as "weird" those idiotic stories of people setting some completely idiotic "world record". No one cares how much mayonnaise you can consume in one hour, doucehnozzle.

Scarab Sages

Well, that's at least my requisite applied to one job per day over and done with.

Scarab Sages

Sent a message to the repair place that came out last week to look at my refrigerator. The dude said he was going to order a part and get back to us, but that was a week ago.
