Question about pre-level 2 retraining

Pathfinder Society

Alright, brand new to PFS (no PFS games, some experience with Pathfinder).

Here is my situation:

I really like the Arcanist class, but know that a 'finalized' version will be out in just a few more weeks. There might be changes, or even an archetype I would want to 'lock in' on once it comes out, and I am glad I can make that change before I hit level 2 (which will be a while anyway).

So, as a starter character, you get 150g. Doing three scenarios, on the normal track, will get you to level 2. However, at the end of each scenario, you get to 'generate' gold with a craft/profession and maybe even receive items. If I do three scenarios, then choose to 're-roll', do I go back to a 150g spend, or do I get to account for the new items/gold I received.

Caveat to last paragraph: Even if the answer is 'yes' to getting more gold, I would still consider the gold spent on items consumed such as scrolls gone if I actually used them.

The reason I am even asking is that I have an opportunity to play a scenario (Confirmation) next weekend. Wondering if it would be a waste of my time, if the progress would not be kept anyway.

Welcome to PFS! The pre-level 2 thing isn't starting from scratch; you could just start a new PC for that. Rather, you can freely rebuild your character, including selling back your gear for full gold so you can buy different stuff. Your "progress" is not lost.

So if you play three scenarios, and each gets you 500gp, then at the end you can sell back whatever you've purchased, and have 1,650gp with which to buy gear for whatever your 2nd-level PC turns out to be. This of course comes with the exception of used consumables.

Does that answer your question?

Your progress would stick around, when the "final" version of the class is released you'll just have to update your character to the new version.

However, if your character is still 1st level, or if you have 3 XP and you haven't yet played him/her as a 2nd level character, then you can rebuild that character into anything you want, which means you can sell every single item you have for full gold and buy new items. You definitely DO get to keep all the gold listed on the chronicle sheets you've obtained.

The only exception to that is if you use consumables (like potions) that you bought, you must remove that gold from your total gold available to your rebuilt character.

Thank you very much! I would much rather prefer to get to play my character, instead of just using some premade. I mean... let's face it, as a level 1, nearly no mechanics will be different really, and that way I can start getting into my guy's story and work on developing that. His description and story aren't going to change really anyway through the rebuild.
