I recently came across a great miniature of an owl, and while I was not considering an owl as an animal companion to either my Level 1 Druid, or my Level 2 Ranger (both of whom are PFS characters), but now that I have a cool miniature, I might like to change those plans.
I do own the Animal Archive player companion, so I know there are some tricks in there that I can teach (like 'bombard' or whatever it's called, to drop potion/bombs).
But what other useful advantages can a flying animal companion bring to my characters? Should I use him with the Druid or with the Ranger?
Skills and feats to consider? Are they survivable if used with discretion?
Thanks in advance.

Falconer Ranger has some nice custom tricks, and is a full STR AC instead of the -3 that Rangers normally have to deal with. However, you would need to pay for retraining since your Ranger is already level 2.
Well, that's out, then. I can't afford to re-train.
I should also say that in terms of PFS-legal books, I only own the CRB and APG. I do not own UM/UC/Advanced Race/Advanced Class

Oh, this only goes for your preexisting characters? Darn....I was going to suggest the Huntmaster Cavalier archetype. If you stick with just one AC, it can serve as a fairly powerful flank buddy because of the fact that you share your challenge ability with it. 3 natural attacks can count for a lot then.

Well, the druid is level 1. You can do a complete rebuild at any time before 2, so cavalier could work.

I actually have a cavalier sort of 'in mind' to build, but had thought about the 'standard horse' build. I will have to explore the huntsman with owl concept. It's intriguing.
The Falconer, unfortunately, might be interesting enough for me to make the purchase of Ultimate Combat... I happen to have a 'pathfinder large' eagle model that could be a hoot (even if it's not treated as large; I could re-base it, and it would still have a 1.5-inch wingspan on a 1-inch base).
