I am preparing this campaign and was wondering about how long most groups spent exploring Smuggler's Shiv. I went ahead and determined weather and random encounters for four weeks but wasn't sure if I should plan on them hanging around a lot longer than that. With the bit about hunting out encounters compared to the number I rolled it seems like the party may be in for a stay longer than I prepared.
I understand that it all depends on how aggressively the party explores the island and when they run into certain encounters and areas. How many days did your group stick around?

We stayed about 3 weeks in total.
Got the NPC's sorted out quickly and maintaining a good camp, while we explored throughly.
Moved the camp several times as we discovered more of the island and found better campsites, also to throw off the cannibals.
Had some down days due to disease and wounds, but my Alchemist had a very good heal skill, so we didn't lose too much time with that.
We had some close calls, but having some characters with survival skills, and some good healing meant we made it fairly quickly.
It's easy to get tangled up in the problems you face, getting organised and having a clear goal for each day helps a lot.
Also, don't be afraid to run away, setting your camp up as a strong defensive positon, with traps around it can save lives if you do need somewhere to run too!

38 days.
That includes 10 additional days of waiting for the 2nd rescue vessel to show up (long story; full of spoilers...)
I know the first book is rather open ended and sand-boxy, but as players we approached it from the mindset of "We want off this island, and get on with why we were travelling to Eledar in the first place." As such, we did not do a full explore. Through heal checks and heal spells we saved all NPCs and had only one PC death.
