Enlightened Paladin Clarifications

Rules Questions

So, I was just wondering;

With the Enlightened Paladin archetype stating that Enlightened paladins follow no universal code, is this to say they don't need to be Lawful Good.

The first term of the typical code is "A Paladin must be lawful good.."

Just curious.

There is nothing in the Iroran Paladin archetype that removes the alignment restriction for paladins. There's no set code because Irori sets no fixed path to enlightenment - there are many and each individual should discover their own.

While Irori is in favor of his followers finding their own paths to perfection, his few Paladins are still all LG. The flavor fluff got a bit mangled when the PFSRD tried to take the Golarian specific stuff out of it to neuter it into "Enlightened Paladin". Here's the original fluff was.

"Iroran paladins meditate on self-perfection and train relentlessly, knowing that their example can inspire others to excel. Irori offers no universal paladin code each paladin in his service creates his own code as part of his spiritual journey, seeing the adherence to such a self-formulated creed as one of the many tests one must face to reach perfection"

All it really means that an Paladin of Irori is free to set her own set of RP Codes instead of having preset codes based on her faith/oath. For example one of Iomedae's codes for her pallies is, "I will never abandon a companion, though I will honor sacrifice freely given." However, mechanically there's nothing stating you're allowed to be anything else by LG.

Thanks guys; that helps figure stuff out.
