Extra Circles of Binding / Missing Handchopper...

Customer Service

Hello, firstly I like to say that I am very happy with the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game (RotR), and despite issues with the coloring of the card backs, I just play around it. That said, the changing of printers did create one oddity...

During my playthrough of Hook Mountain Massacre, (AP3; in this case, the one I got is from the batch that produced the side-opening box and the drastically lighter card back.) I noticed that Circles of Binding was actually from AP4. On checking the following thread...

http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2qm4j?What-barrier-am-I-missing#11

It appears that I am short one Handchopper barrier card and up one Circles of Binding barrier card. I figured that it's possible I'd end up with an AP4 from the same printer, and get my Handchopper that way, but the AP4 available in my country is from the new batch.

While I don't mind the different coloration of AP3 from the rest of the set, and I figure it is still possible to get AP5 and AP6 from that printing batch, I wonder if it is possible to ask for a copy of Handchopper?

Regardless, many thanks for this great game, and here's hoping that Skulls and Shackles will not have the same problem: I already have my eye on that one...

Your deck 3 was a USA (aka 2nd) printing. If you get deck 4 from the USA printing run, I believe it should have the reverse problem (i.e. it is missing a Circle of Binding and has an extra Hand Chopper instead). That should make your set whole. So if the one in your country is a second printing, that is actually the one you want to get.

Except I now have two Circles of Binding (one very light colored from AP3 and one much darker from AP4) and one Hand Chopper (very light colored from AP3).

So...
- darker back = 1st printing?
- lighter back = 2nd printing?

I think 2nd printing is generally lighter. It is also .5 mm shorter. Look at your boxes. Do they say printed in China or printed in USA? Do they open on the top or open on the side? 1st Printing says Printed in China and opens on the top. Second printing says Printed in USA and opens on the side.

Okay, so I have an AP3 that is from the 2nd printing, while the rest of my stuff is from the 1st printing. This goes back to the first issue, where the 2nd printing is botched and has one card from AP4 (namely, the Circles of Binding) replacing the one of two copies of Hand Chopper that is supposed to be there.

I checked with the store, and somehow all they have are top-opening AP4s. Here in the Philippines the APs are already delayed two months; they're not even offering to pre-order AP5, much less AP6. There's also no guarantee of which of the two printings AP5 and AP6 will come from, so having a light-backed AP3 is not a problem.

Back to the first question: is a replacement Hand Chopper possible, or are there any steps I could take? If not, I understand; the cost of mail is not cheap.

On an unrelated note, I figured that I will most likely get the subscription once Skulls and Shackles comes around, not so much for the print issues as more of the waiting. A two-delay before ordering, then another six weeks waiting... the customs office in my country can be a pain when it comes to timely shipments. Question is: are subscription orders sent by mail/post office, or by shipping to a local distributor?

Shipping is done from the Paizo warehouse. More info on shipping options here.

For your missing Handchopper, emailing or calling customer service might be the best option, as I'm sure they would need additional info before being able to figure if there is anything they can do.

See here for how to contact them.

They are in the midst of what might be their largest subscription mailing ever right now, but they are great at helping people out. So just give them a bit of time to get back to you. They also monitor these forums, so they might reply to you here.

I suggested in another thread that when they create the Errata Deck, they should include one copy each of Hand Chopper and Circles of Binding, so that those of us who have the wrong count (from getting different printings of those two chapters) can substitute in the correct card. No word yet on if that will happen or not, though.

(The "Errata Deck" is something they've talked about doing after the final chapter is released and they have a chance to be sure they've caught all needed errata. My understanding is it would be a deck we could order from a specific on-demand card deck printer, that would have all the errata'd cards needed for this game. They'll presumably announce it is available sometime in the next couple of months?)

Another option is, IF you sleeve your cards AND since you have an extra of the Circles of Binding - make a photocopy of the Hand Chopper card, and sleeve it in front of the extra Circles of Binding card. If you download Hawkmoon269's errata cards from BoardGameGeek, and put them in the sleeves with the relevant cards, it works pretty well. But if you don't sleeve your cards, this isn't really an option.

I use penny sleeves, so if I go the photocopy route, it will be with sticker paper.

I suppose I can wait on news of the Errata Deck, given I am not so much in a hurry. Having a light-colored Circles of Binding and a dark-colored Circles of Binding does have the perk that I know which one is supposed to be which. It is one card out of so many, though I notice that with AP3, the Circles have ended up in a location deck three times...

Again, thank you Hawkmoon269 and Cintra B. I'll contact CS by e-mail and see what happens from there.
