Cool product ideas.

Product Discussion

I had some cool product ideas that may or may not seem cool to paizo folks but here goes.
1)Golarion globe.
Yes an actual globe. Where I know the full globe has not yet been developed this idea could work out in the future with an awesome artwork globe.

2)Deluxe world maps (Limited edition)
This is a fully deluxe item where you take a golarion region do a fully detailed out artistic flavored drawing and put it on a faux backing that rolls up in a scroll tube that is also artistically done.
Examples
a) Taldor- done in a european medieval style map drawing on faux pressed cloth backing into a detailed renaissance like scroll tube.
b) Osirian- done in an ancient egyptian theme illustration on faux pressed reed papyrus that rolls up into a suitably egyptian style scroll case
c) Land of the Linnorm kings- Done in a very viking esque mapping technigue on faux goat leather rolled up into a very scandinavian flavor scroll case.
d)(insert suitable Tian Xia nation here) done in semi authentic asian themed artword done on faux pressed bamboo slatted mat rolled up into an asian style scroll tube.

3) The book of the Damned (limited)
Basically a limited release that includes all 3 book of the damned series as well as suitable support articles about demons, plus demons revisited, some fiction written in as appropriate. Make a suitable artistically carry case that looks like stitched leather from various demonic and humanoid sources, where the hardcover and artistic prints will sit inside.

These are just a few ideas I had mulling around my head. I know they may be stupid but I think they would sell.

For ease of shipping, this should probably be inflatable, like a beach ball. The seams should be mid-ocean, as much as possible.

Or it could be sold in wedges, starting with the Inner Sea Wedge, and you can get the stand separately and click them together to assemble the wedges into a globe as they become available. (Tian Xa wedge next, Arcadia and Casmaron wedges not available until those areas are developed.) But that would invite endless griping about whichever wedge isn't available yet...

"Hurry up with the Casmaron AP, Paizo, and map out that last quarter of the world, my world-globe looks like an unfinished Death Star here!"

Combining those two approaches, the beach ball base could be blank, and come with a sticker-map of the Inner Sea region that can be cut to gently curve and stick onto the curving surface of the inflated sphere. A Tien Xa sticker is also available. Arcadia and Casmaron (and Southern Garund, etc.) stickers become available as those areas are mapped out. Finding a way to get the stickers to work, or perhaps even making them electrostatic cling-y, instead of 'oops, I did it wrong and ruined my $15 'globe' and $10 sticker...' could be an issue.

Hot. Lisa Stevens must talk to fancy-map-producers to get some sample products made for her approval and then say, 'Naw, not good enough, but I'll keep these prototypes for my office.' :)

That would probably be super-expensive and have a limited audience. I don't see more than a hundred or so people willing to plunk out 150 bucks or more for a big book of demonology/devilology/etc.

But if it worked, how long after would it be until we see Mythos Monsters Revisted and Great Old Ones of Golarion reprinted into a big faux (black) goat (with a thousand young) leather Necronomicon?

Or a big faux gold Book of the Dead, full of undead stuff with Egyptian-esque prose?

Or a gilded Tome of Angels?

IMO, that sort of thing wouldn't be able to sell enough copies to justify it's cost to produce, barring some sort of Kickstartage or something where all the copies are pre-paid for (and no not-uncommon cost overrun turning it into a profit-loser for the company).

Relevant data point: We still have the Rise of the Runelords Deluxe Collector's Edition in stock.

That is very unfortunate Liz. I own one. It is an awesome piece of art. I'm sorry you didn't sell as many as should have been sold. :(

Well, it *is* a $200 book, but it's a useful metric to show how many people actually will buy a limited edition of a book. We've also done limited editions of the Art of Dragon and Visions of WAR—the former just recently sold out, and we still have the latter. So, while the idea of a limited edition superfancy book definitely appeals to my inner geek, the business economics of producing such a book limits their release to special occasions—like the anniversary of Rise of the Runelords. :D

Speaking strictly for myself, while I would absolutely LOVE to own a copy of the deluxe collector's edition of Rise of the Runelords, there is no way I could justify spending 200 bucks for it.

(I'm imagining explaining the charge on our credit card statement to my wife... and I'm shuddering even thinking about it...)

You mean like this - it isn't Tian Xia, rather the island of Yonshu from the Kaidan setting of Japanese horror (PFRPG) and there's no scroll tube, but it is in the style of Japanese ukiyo-e wood block print art.

Seems to me the solution is obvious. Expensive books like that should be given out free to subscribers as gifts. No more worry about them sitting around unbought! ;)

I think the Campaign setting is near the point where you could do a "History" release similar to what WotC did with the Forgotten Realms and "The Grand History of the Realms."

I absolutely loved that product, and I think there would be a lot of excitement for all of Golarion's history to be collected in one volume.

Has anything like this been kicked around yet? I'm sure more than a few of the freelancers would appreciate a reference like that around.

The only "problem" would be having to update it every few years.

I would so buy the maps. Just sayin'. *still wants to get her gorgeous Irrisen and Abyss maps framed*
