Double Checking My Understanding of a Few Things

Rules Questions

I've had some fun suggestions made to me. I want to make sure I am reading this correctly.

1)
Mithral Agile Breastplate - Has an armor check penalty of -1. So if I am not proficient in medium armor I will have a -1 on my to hit rolls (melee or ranged). While it won't slow me down, mithral does not make it light to get rid of needing medium armor proficiency. Correct?
2)
Mithral Bukler - A mithral heavy shield, mithral light shield, or mithral buckler all have no armor check penalty. So even if not proficient with shields, there would be no penalty to attack rolls with using any of them and firing a pistol (a one handed weapon. However, only with the mithral buckler do I count as having a hand free to reload the pistol. Correct?
3)
Explosive Missile - I can use this to add bomb damage to pistol shots (but not musket shots). Whatever bombs I can make.
Conductive weapon property - is able to channel the energy of a spell-like or supernatural ability that relies on a melee or ranged touch attack to hit its target. Bombs are a supernatural ability that uses ranged touch.
So I can combine those 2 into a single attack that will do pistol damage + bomb damage + bomb damage (for the cost of 3 daily uses of my bombs). Correct?

This is for PFS if it matters.

Well number 1 is easy.

"Nonproficient with Armor Worn: A character who wears armor and/or uses a shield with which he is not proficient takes the armor's (and/or shield's) armor check penalty on attack rolls as well as on all Dex- and Str-based ability and skill checks. The penalty for non-proficiency with armor stacks with the penalty for shields."

And, "Most mithral armors are one category lighter than normal for purposes of movement and other limitations."

The expectation is Elven Chainmail which does count as Light armor for Proficiencies.

The exception{spck) is Elven Chainmail which does count as Light armor for Proficiencies.

But in PFS I would not be able to enchant my Elven Chain because it is a named item. Correct?

From the PFS FAQ,

"Named magic items—including specific armor and specific weapons—are not upgradeable. Non-magic specific armor and specific weapons may be upgraded normally. Magic armor and weapons may be upgraded to named versions if they are the same basic material and shape as, and meet but do not exceed the enhancement bonuses of the named versions."

I would think Elven Chain counts as non-magic specific armor as it has no magical aura. So yes it can be upgraded.

Hmmm... Herolab won't let me enchant it so I would have to do it manually. That's annoying.

Elvin chain would have the same AC but then no attack roll penalty.

It weighs more, has a lower max dex (not likely to make a difference at PFS levels), and a higher armor check penalty.

Not sure, I will have to think on it.

Any thoughts on the other questions?

Just remembered the last question.

4) If a pistol has the Impervious property, is it no longer affected by misfires?

1: You are correct.
2: Correct.
3: Correct.
4: No, misfires do not deal damage to the weapon, they immediately give the broken/destroyed conditions. Impervious would not help at all.

On a side note, yes, the Elven Chain is upgradeable since it is non-magic, same as dwarven plate (which is just adamantine plate).

Since it seems you are making a gun wielding alchemist and using Conductive to do massive bomb shots, the Cavalier archetype from Inner Sea Combat might be good, you get all the armor profs, gun profs, and the Amateur Gunslinger and Gunsmithing feats for free. Cha based, but one gunslinger deed of your choice (recommend quick clear).

Ok, thanks.

Herolabs won't let me upgrade elven chain (or at least I haven't figured out how to do it). That is annoying. I would have to add all that pack in by hand every time I printed the sheets. And I don't think there is any way to take care of it if I were to use it on screen from a laptop since I can't write it in.

EDIT: I think I have a work around. If I name the armor "+2 Elven Chain" and then apply the in play spell of Magic Vestment CL 8 to the armor before print, I believe it will work. I will have to remember to subtract the costs myself, but that is minor. I will try it when I get home tomorrow.

I had a feeling Impervious wouldn't help, but it was a thought.

If I get Inner Sea Combat before I start the character, I will check it out.

For HeroLabs: Go into the Custom/Masterwork armor link, then into the Custom Armor link, and Elven Chain, as an upgradeable armor, should be in the list there.

I am away from my PC with HL on it, so I will try to remember when I get home to verify it...

I can't seem to make this work, so I just went into the adjustments tab and gave myself more AC for the missing +N of the upgraded elven chainmail
