Higher Level Pregens & Convention Play

Pathfinder Society

Liberty's Edge 2/5

I'll be at GenCon this summer and play some PFS at home, so I have a couple characters of higher levels.
I'll be playing with a friend who doesn't play much Pathfinder Society, save at conventions, and likely only has a level 1 character.

Could he use one of the provided higher level pregens to play at a higher level table of the special, such as the level 7 pregen?
Or are the higher level pregens just for when you show up at a games and the only slot is higher level?

He can (by pfs rules anyway. I don't know if gencon has special rules about it).

If he's using the level 7 pregen, make sure its not in a 10-11 subtier. While legal, he's probably going to be holding the party back.

I don't suppose you could make a lower level character and go play those scenarios with him?

I Was going to. That was actually plan A. But he expressed an interest in not playing level 1.

So I thought I'd ask.

Everybody's gotta start somewhere...

Print out the pre gens and look them over- the dm might have copies of them for you, but he also could have forgot them as one of the 800 things he brought with him to the convention.

The iconic paladin, barbarian, and cleric are okish (the latter especially if you have time to swap out her spell list) Valeros is pretty bad- two weapon fighting is iffy at best and he's far from the best. Harsk is... I have literally seen him out damaged by a familiar. Not an animal companion. A familiar.

If its level 1 in particular as opposed to low level in general he's avoiding, you can run three pre gens, drop the gold to 500, apply them all to a first level character and BOOM. Your character is born at second level.

Seoni isn't a bad choice either and I believe Seela might be OK as well.

Yeah, but if he's only playing PFS for the special (with me) every other GenCon, advancing is going to take a long time.

Run him through a couple of modules maybe to level him up. That's what I was going to do with my home group for gencon before things fell through. People going off to college makes planning a pain.

if he has time, and not access - point him at some of the on-line games. I don't play them myself, but they can be a option to get in some gaming when you aren't able to get to a game.

and both of you could even play in a game together that way...
