Gray Garrison Reskin

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I am currently trying to redeploy troops to the Gray Garrison, I feel that it is under powered using just the base abilities for monsters and the Tieflings. The Minotaur I can't seem to find a stat block for, does anyone have one made up or just make one on Hero Lab and hope to not kill your PCs.

Scarab Sages

Standard minotaur with the fiendish simple template.

Following changes.

Minotaur gains DR 5/good, Resist Cold and Fire 10, and SR 10.

Once per day as a swift action, the minotaur can use Smite good against one good target. This gives him +6 to damage rolls against that target. It does not bypass DR and does not raise the minotaurs AC or attack rolls.

And honestly, double up on alarm numbers. The demons are supposed to be halfway smart and they're protecting the keystone to their plan. Any real attacks on the Garrison should be pretty quickly met with escalation of whatever Jeslyn can get her hands on.

Ok weapon wise I am going with a +1 Keen Great Axe, it isn't that much over kill I don't think.

OK I have added new guys to the garrison beefed some up and changed some. I re-did all the rooms, I am basically adding in stuff to go along with the text actually in the book. I Figure that they wouldn't just trust the defense of the Gray Garrison to just any people, this is a company sent in by Staunton Vhane to protect the remaining fragment of the Ward stone until the ritual can be complete.

Also the redo of the NPCs in the garrison.

My guys have just gotten to the Gray Garrison and are preparing their first assault on it at the moment, and happen to very much agree with you that the forces there are lackluster for what they're meant to be guarding.

I might have to steal some inspiration from your re-do of the forces in and around the garrison - good work!

Grand Lodge

Thanks, after Last nights session, I am going to also look into making ground unfavorable for movement. In P3 i was thinking have the Sargent kick a brazier over and start the table on fire eliminating part of the room for movement, this will allow the NPCs to form up and fight more defensively.

I finished the battle of the grey garrison last night
I have 5 characters so the changes I made were
1) Increase the number of tieflings to a total of about 18 of which half were 1st level fighters rather than rogues.
2)5 Dretches
3) Added Level 5 antipaladin
4) Added level 5 Inquisitor/gunslinger
5) Boosted the alchemist and the Oracle by about 2 levels each
6) Deradnu was a Fiendish Barbarian 4
7) Total of 8 cultists
8) 5 of the Fiendish fly things

1st attack the players killed 8 Tieflings, 4 cultists and the antipaladin as well as the 6 upstairs zombies
For their second attack there were 8 more Zombies, and the Oracle has actually started to help sending several monsters created with summon monster 2 and 3 to help.
The Dretches (2 extra summoned), the zombies and the summoned monsters kept the assault on the front door busy while the better demons the alchemist and the Gunman prepped and hit the players indoors, a well placed glitterdust crippled the forces of evil on the first round and meant the alchemist and the Gunman found themselves with melee combatants in the face. In the end the alchemist escaped to make a stand with the last of the upstairs forces and all the demons and the gunman got chopped.
In the upstairs hallway the remaining forces went down fast after the alchemist got a crit in the face from a two handed smite evil and the blinding shield from downstairs incapacitated all the remaining cultists and tieflings (appalling dice rolls)
Deradnu terrified them when he hit the Paladin and the ranger for 30+ hp each leaving them on the verge of death. Then he went down as Irabeth, and the PC paladin smited him plus magic missiles the ranger hitting him and generally being swarmed under.
The Oracle did not get to act as one of the PC's ran around her and her summoned beasties and blew up the ward stone.
The Paladin of Iomedea was very happy with the dream of Iomedea, I added a bit were Iomedea is still considered the Knight commander of the Knights of Ozem and had her knight him in his dream. When he shared his dream with the Queen and her advisers (the Queen already knew this from her own dream) he was told this meant he was already a Knight of Ozem and he was recognized into the order at the same time the others were made Knights of the Crusade , as he is a Tiefling it was a big thing for his character to be honored as a knight.

I am currently in the process of making a Trap master Tiefling for Gray Garrison as well

My group started the grey garrison last night - I have 5 PCs in the group: aasimar paladin of Iomedae, tiefling ranger who is mostly melee-based but is almost as dangerous with a bow, tiefling rogue, gnome wizard (illusionist), and human cleric of Erastil focusing on archery.

I padded the opening encounter with the two vermleks by also adding two level 2 tiefling fighters to it - one stationed on the roof, and one stationed in P13a (at the window on the second floor). The illusionist managed to keep one of them locked down with hypnotic pattern for 4 rounds, while the other tiefling (in the window) pegged arrows at the party with rapid shot. A couple of lucky critical hits cut down the paladin and the ranger (which the cleric then brought back up).

The vermleks posed a minor problem with their mass inflict wounds being able to heal themselves/each other (which then allowed one of the downed vermleks to use its abandon flesh ability to heal itself further), but the real danger were the archers. Eventually, with only a little more damage taken by the party, the ranger, cleric, and wizard (armed with his wand of magic missile) managed to deal with the two archers before they could get back inside and warn the rest of the garrison that an attack had been launched.

The group then decided to infiltrate through the second floor window, with the ranger handily making the DC to climb up. After tying a rope to the body of the tiefling and weighing it down, the ranger (who had neglected to get healed before going into the garrison) poked his head into the room. The demonic flies managed to not be noticed hiding in between the beams on the roof, and so the only creature the tiefling could see in the dark room was another tiefling.

In the aerie encounter, I'd added a level 3 tiefling druid (blight druid) to it, as the garrison's vermin keeper (I've added a couple more demonic vermin to other encounters). The ranger failed a bluff check to convince the druid that he was the guard, and the druid commanded his 'pets' to attack. Opening with three acid breath attacks dropped the already low hp ranger down to -10. The druid attempted to use death knell (from the Death domain) on the ranger, but a successful save gave him just enough time for the wizard and the rogue to perform a daring feat of heroics and feed their fallen companion a potion to get him back into the fight.

The group managed to dispatch the demonic vermin and their keeper, and were starting to heal up with various wands when they all heard the loud footfalls of something with cloven feet outside, and a banging on the door accompanied by "Druid! What is going on in there!" before the screen faded to black and we needed to call it a night.

All in all, a good session was had, and the PCs are in something of a tight spot but not quite backed into the corner just yet.

Hello There... it's a pity that the Gray Garrison Building doesn't have a nice structure... I've aligned the stairs of the building and the result is this:

Raltus - did you limit the number of charges on the Wand of Fireball and the Wand of Magic Missile?

Grand Lodge

Yes I did, I would really have to look and see what Charges they did have, I don't think I put any over 15 if i went that high at all.
