Silver Crusade

Not a lot of info, other than he died due to injuries from a fall, even with the other link in the Kotaku article. I was really bummed to find this out.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I've started and deleted about five responses so far.

It's hard to put it into words exactly, but:

I am really, truly sad to see him go.

H.R. Giger scared the living hell out of me.

He also showed that horror and beauty could mesh to make something even greater(and more horrifying).

He has been and will continue to be a huge influence on my fantasy and sci-fi.

I fell in love with biomechanical aesthetics starting with his work.

I learned that body horror was a thing because of his work.

I regret never getting to go to that cafe he designed.

And I am thankful he managed to turn his night terrors into something that has inspired so many.

Rest in peace, Mr. Giger. May Heaven have an especially freaky corner waiting to be completed. :)

I figured you would be the first to respond, given your posts about the Dark Tapestry on these forums (which I enjoy reading, btw).

I feel your pain. It is hard to put exactly into words one's feelings in regard to this. For the longest time I only knew him as 'that Alien guy' or 'that guy responsible for Jonathan Davis' mike stand'. It wasn't until I read your posts that he became than just that guy. So for that I want to say thank you. I just wish I had taken the time to appreciate his work earlier.

I loved his artwork. Oddly enough, it was he who started me on the long road of computer gaming with his Darkseed game. It was both exciting and terrifying at the same time.

Liberty's Edge

Truly a loss to the science fiction and horror communities. Rest well.

I'm mad upset that we lost him, over injury from fall of all things. He was one of my many inspirations. Plus, he showed that your nightmares can be just as beautiful (or at least fascinating) as your dreams when made into art. He will surely be missed.

Just days before his death I watched Jodorowsky's Dune and in that documentary they had interviews with Giger. He looked absolutely horrible and his speech was very labored. So I was saddened but not entirely surprised to read the news that he passed away.

Jodorowsky brought Giger onboard his project to illustrate the Harkonnens.

I am both fascinated and revolted by his work. He is a unique talent.
