Spellstrike Attack: AC or Touch AC

Rules Questions

Scarab Sages

Alright, I had a rules issue with a player this evening concerning Spellstrike. He said that he, and several past DM's, had ruled that the attack roll made with the magus Spellstrike class feature was made against Touch AC, whereas I ruled that it was a normal weapon attack.

I'm pretty sure I've got it right and that he (and his past DM's) were crazy, but I wanted to double check and make sure that the attack roll is treated as a normal attack roll and not a touch attack.

If he delivers it through the weapon it hits normal AC, with the real benefit here being that he gets to use his weapon's critical threat range as his spell's critical threat range... the multiplier is still x2 though.

The grey area I see a lot is shocking grasp still getting the +3 or not when used with a spell strike. When it was just lighting arcing from your hand sure but now it's a magnet pulling your weapon in? Just saying... It feels cheesy. But still not as bad as saying spell strike hits touch AC.

Instead of the free melee touch attack normally allowed to deliver the spell, a magus can make one free melee attack with his weapon (at his highest base attack bonus) as part of casting this spell. If successful, this melee attack deals its normal damage as well as the effects of the spell.

Spellstrike uses a melee attack with a weapon to deliver the spell. Melee attacks need to hit actual AC.

The benefit to doing this, is that you do weapon damage as normal and deliver the spell at the same time. The spell also uses your weapon's crit range, if it can crit. The downside is that you must hit the full AC of the target.

Well, at least until level 9, when you can pick up the Accurate Strike arcana.

The magus can expend 2 points from his arcane pool as a swift action to resolve all of his melee weapon attacks until the end of his turn as melee touch attacks.

Not gray, there is a FAQ about it:

Shocking Grasp: Do I get the +3 on the attack roll if I'm delivering the spell with something other than a touch attack, such as a natural weapon?

Yes. The +3 bonus is not dependent on using a melee touch attack to deliver the jolt. For example, a magus using spellstrike to deliver shocking grasp through his weapon would get the +3 bonus on the attack roll.
