I am wanting other opinions on if you need to use UMD on a staff that has a spell that is a class spell and one that isn't. Specifically if you need to use UMD on the spell that isn't a class spell.
Example:
You have a staff that has magic missile and cure light wounds in it. Does a wizard with magic missile on his spell list still need to roll UMD to activate cure light wounds from the staff?

Yes, the wizard would need a Use Magic Device check to activate the cure light wounds in a staff. It doesn't matter that there is a different spell in the staff that is on his spell list; it's activating that particular spell that he has no experience/training for.
Note that if the wizard has even a single level of paladin or ranger (i.e., planning on arcane archer and/or eldritch knight; as long as the archetype doesn't trade away spellcasting), then they don't require a Use Magic Device check for any spell on the paladin or ranger list. The RAW are explicit on this point: "Spell trigger items can be used by anyone whose class can cast the corresponding spell. This is the case even for a character who can't actually cast spells, such as a 3rd-level paladin." (Core Rulebook, Magic Items)

Or maybe it was crafted by a team of a wizard and a cleric?
Still wouldn't explain how either intended to use it, unless one had UMD. Maybe it was commissioned by a non-casting UMDer?Lots of possibilities!
