Changing Creature Types or Subtypes In-Game

Rules Questions

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I've been very strict about rules in a very long game I'm running, especially over precedent in setting.

If a player would like to change his race, permanently and fully, is there a spell, magical item/artifact, pool-of-primodial-goo anywhere in Golarion or the outer planes which would allow him to pick what race he desired to be and obtain it?

Polymorph and it's lesser or greater variants is ruled out - it does not truly change one creature into another.

Reincarnate is not an option, as it is by nature a random spell.

Wish/Miracle doesn't quite seem to explicitly cover true race change.

I would like something which could be the object of a quest, but will settle for just about anything that isn't third-party. If he has to build a body out of elemental ice cream, cast four spells on it and kick a deity in the rear before jumping in a very specific bend in the Styx... I want to see his face when he discovers what that quest line's going to look like.

Rules quotes please. If I can't find it, I can't approve it, unfortunately.

Its fully in dm fiat territory. Ill menrion something on wish/miracle though from whst I understand they have two modes. The first mode is basically can I solve the request with an existing spell. This means without proper wording most wishes to change race should use polymorph any object.

The second mode is the I start twisting reality a little too much and something goes wrong. This is where the clear absolute race change orobably falls under.

Basically its in fu there are no rules territory.

I can think of only one off the top of my head in Pathfinder, and it is race-specific (Half-Orc to Orc), but it does show such a thing is possible in at least some circumstances: Half-Blood Extraction

Given that this spell is only 5th level, It seems a more radical transformation would be within the realm of possibility of higher order spells. Of course, that doesn't mean such spells exist.

This sort of thing was a lot easier back in 3.5 Ed. In addition to various spells, there were character rebuilding quests. I never used any of them, but they were "official".

Idid thinl of one thing. If you do allow this maybe use reincarnation as your model. Its one of the few ways to achieve the effect in game even if the "victim" doesn't usually have a choice.

I haven't satisfactorily found an answer to my request, but I did stumble upon a tidbit which could possibly be of use.

Bestiary 3, Rakshasa, Maharaja, Rajadhirajas

"Once per day as a standard action, a rajadhiraja can bring a dead creature back to life as if using the reincarnate spell ... the exact form of this new body is chosen by the rajadhiraja."

Sczarni

What race to what race, if I may ask?

EDIT: Also, I flagged for removal to the Advice Forum. I believe you'd have better luck over there.

It's more than one player, and different races of varying CR. The game grew to be a much higher level than we originally intended. I and my players would like to continue with the same personalities and memories, but move on to a much more powerful bodies and challenges.

I suppose I would like something like the Player's Handbook II race rebuild quests, but I don't like (and haven't thusfar in the campaign) converted anything into Pathfinder.

There's an interesting idea--find a way to get a rahadhiraja in your debt. Good luck with that....

there is an artifact in the artifact book that allows this kind of stuff.

The Hourglass of Transfiguration! Thank you!
