Sovereign Court

We played through Skinsaw this weekend and are confused as how defeating Iesha actually works.

It seems very niche.

This has been discussed on these boards many times. Short story- only Kyra can possibly defeat her with the cards in the set. But you don't need to defeat her, so don't worry about it.

Edit: Wait, you were on one of the threads. The search on these forums sucks so bad, I cannot find the thread where this was discussed ad naseum.

Sovereign Court

To add to Bidmaron's post

Only Kyra can defeat Iesha, anyone else is just rolling to not take damage. If you are Myra, you add Magic to your check since Iesha is Undead. Since your check now has Magic, she can be defeated. No one else can add Magic to the available skill checks, so they are simply trying to roll high enough to pass the check and not take damage -- even though she would be considered undefeated. If the player passes the check and she is still undefeated, then they simply don't get to search a deck, and she goes back to the box like all summoned cards.

Sovereign Court

Yes. But how does the rest work.

It talks about "the rest of the turn"...or something along those lines...but the only turns is each time a character goes.

Suppose the cleric defeats Iesha...and finds Skinsaw Man in another location. How can anyone take advantage of the reduction in difficulty that defeating Iesha gives, when that goes away when the next player takes their turn?

You are not limited to one exploration a turn.

It's possible the current hero who defeated her finds the Skinsaw Man at their current location, thus allowing them the chance to fight him and gain the benefits of her defeat.

It's also possible that replaying the scenario down the line, someone may have an effect from a spell or item that allows movement at any time, thus letting them move then explore again.

The main effect as of that adventure, though, is using it to find him in the character's current location, and if not there, then it's pretty moot.

All in all, the planets, stars, and universe (and the RNG) have to align to get the full effect of her defeat to work out perfectly.

They can't. Kyra would need a Cape of Escape to move to the other location. Or to have the Skinsaw Man escape to the location the Haunt was in.

Sovereign Court

So it is very very niche in effect. Sad really.

I suspect she is really mostly there to do some damage to you. Remember, the Haunts themselves don't do any damage, but then she might come along every time you get get a Haunt and she has some difficult checks. And then inside of that mechanic, they put a little thing that would allow for an interesting thing to happen. It is rare, but it is still interesting. It is like a "secret level" or an easter egg. But the searching for the Skinsaw Man isn't really Iesha's main purpose. She is there to give you a challenge.

Sovereign Court

I've been replaying as Kyra, and very much enjoyed beating her. Niche? Yea. Satisfying as hell after beating the scenario 6 times and never being allowed to actually defeat her? To the point words can't even describe.

I have played the scenario solo and as a group, never had much of an issue in avoiding damage.

The haunts don't do damage directly but they do increase all check difficulties from then on in...to the end of the scenario.

I like the mechanics of how the haunts and Iesha work together...I just think the seek Skinsaw part falls flat considering how corner case the chance of actually beating her is.

That's cool.

I am the cleric in our group play through, I use the Paladin in solo.

In solo I never came close to taking damage from Iesha...

In group I got to confront Iesha and decimated her...and felt disappointed that the rest of the special effects from defeating her went to waste (we knew SM was not in that location, and didn't find him in the one I chose to look through).

All is good, I just think it is a bit too much corner case.

Remember, just because you can't encounter the SM doesn't mean that defeating her and then choosing a different location has no benefit. Knowledge is power. If you pick a location with 10 cards still in it, discover that he is NOT there... then you know you don't have to go there to close it, you can just temp-close it if need be. And you also know what boons/banes are there and what you need to defeat them! And there is a LOT of power in that effect if you DO discover where he is, even if you can't go fight him.

So essentially, Iesha is an undead Mayor! lol

Mmhmm...I got all that.

My gripe is only that you do not get to do anything except not take damage unless you are 1 character and that makes it a bit too much of a corner case to me.

I like the mechanics they were using on the scenario. It was a good change of pace on how a scenario worked, I just feel that part fell flat.

Generally, I know that "defeating" something doesn't necessarily mean killing it. So, I am presuming that Iesha will run the chance of being encountered every time a haunt is found.

So in theory, it would be better if the group would find the first couple of Haunts hoping Iesha doesn't show up and then maybe on Haunt 3, Kyra finds her (I'm her) so as to defeat her the other times.
