Channel Force Cleric Build ideas?

Advice

Dark Archive

As the title asks. I recently found this line of feats and it makes me want to really dust them off and use them. However, my question is how to best utilize them? How much charisma will I need to be an effective channel force user? In addition, with a 20 point buy can I still get a stat layout that allows for an 18 wisdom and 16 charisma post racial that dosen't such? If so, what would it look like? Finally, what, if any, spells are good to abuse on the cleric list with channel force? Are there any good pit spells to look into? Also, if I can't get the 18 wisdom post racial, will this drop the effectiveness of going for channel force + spells that create pits, zones etc..due to lower DCs? Finally, on this build would it be -ok- do dump strength entirely(like down to 8 or possibly even 7) in the name of pumping wisdom and charisma and go down to light armor, playing the character as a "caster" who stands back, pushes people around and aids the party with buffs and battlefield control? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated...

An oracle would be better in a sense, but then you would be limited to only affecting undead/negative affinity creature (and outsiders with a feat).

A negative energy channeling cleric would be better in the sense you typically have more targets available, but as you discovered you are splitting stats more ways. There aren't really any clerical pit spells but perhaps you can team up with a friendly wizard or sorcerer.

One of the earth subdomains has some of the pit spells. Theologian for the ability to cast them with regular slots.

Silver Crusade

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Instead of dumping strength, for just 25% of your build you could have basic martial competence, leaving the other 75% for your main plan. This approach combines well with Force Channel, because foes you force away must face your AoOs again. This is a battlefield control effect, for obvious reasons. Instead of hiding at the back you can be getting in your whacks, while still channeling and casting every round.

You won't need much Wisdom, since you focus on buffs and support.

You really need at least a 16 CHA to make an effective offensive Chaneller [sp?].

Quick channel for the win.

You can find sideways to raise your channel DC... Ask your DM if you are allowed to play a neutral cleric with Death and Heroism (Glory subdomain) and choose to channel negative energy (I find force channel much more situational, but you can stick to it and read only the DC boost help below)

Death will give you the great death's embrace at lvl 8. Heroism, if your DM agree, could give you a +2 DC to channel (even if literally written with positive channel energy in Glory description, why couldn't you be heroic with devastative power of negative channeling ???). Heroism keeps access to touch of glory: nice boost to your intimidation check for debuffing, the precious bless weapon at lvl 2 and grants you Heroism at lvl 3, pretty nice buffs for your party tank.

Faith trait "sacred conduit": +1 DC for channel energy
Social trait "bully" +1 intimidation (class skill)

Feats:
Improved channel +2 DC for channel energy
Ability Focus (monster trait) +2 DC for channel energy

selective channel, extra channel and quick channel (I agree with Magda) will be must have for you too.

lvl 1 CHA 16
Boost charisma at lvl 4 and 8 => CHA 18
seek a phylactery of negative channeling, a headband of alluring charisma +4 (from lvl 3, think to eagle's splendor if needed)=> Cha 22 (11 channel a day with extra channel)and you will be able to channel for 7d6 dmg at lvl 9, with a will DC of 27 (10 + 4cha + 4lvl +1 trait +2 Heroism +2 improved channel +2 ability focus +2 headband). Il will heal you 24,5 pv a round and it rocks with shield other.

In very difficult encounters, you can double this amount with quick channel

at lvl 9, your intimidation score with touch of glory should be 28.
so you can intimidate for -2 to saving throws and use bestow curse for a definitive -4 to hit and -4 to save.

Ah, a yummy 31 DC for you channel energy !

and don't forget desecrate for an ultimate +3 to DC if needed...
