Lance and double damage

Rules Questions

So, the lance deals double-damage when used "from the back of a charging mount".

Do you know if there other weapons that have that advantage? I suppose it is more of a jousting lance and that's the reason why this bonus does not apply to, for example, a longspear... or any other bracing weapon...

It just always struck me as a bit strange and I was wondering if others felt the same...

I'm not aware of any other weapon with that feature. However, the Spirited Charge feat will let you do it with other weapons (though it also upgrades the lance to triple).

Historically speaking they should allow a Lance Arret modification to a breastplate or other solid armor as upping the damage with a lance... or maybe it's assume that's where the amage bonus comes from. The arret transmits the shock of impact into the chest rather then the arm so there is less motion to absorb impact.

Of course to be purely technical rider strength only matters I the abdomen, not arm when jousting with an arret. It's probably a special enough case for DM's to just wing it within the campaign though.

Thanks for the answers...

A mounted cavalier seems like he can be pretty bad-ass in open terrain...
