Playing Scenarios And Credit

I'm relatively new to PFS and I'm getting involved in it alongside a couple of friends of mine (and hoping to build a local community.) I've read through the guide (several times) and the FAQ, and I'm just wanting to clarify my understanding on playing through and running Scenarios and gaining credit for it.

-You can only ever play a Scenario once per player (not character) and gain credit for it?
-You can only GM a Scenario once and gain credit for it?
-You cannot play a Scenario you have GM'ed?

This is my understanding of how this works, the question marks are to check my understanding is right since I'm going to be teaching/explaining this to other people.

So, if I'm right with the above, does that mean you can play a scenario and gain credit for it, then GM that scenario and gain credit for it? But, you can't GM a scenario and gain credit for it, then play that same scenario and gain credit for it? Logically that makes sense in my head.

Also, if you play a scenario and apply that Chronicle to the character that played it, when you then GM that scenario can you apply that Chronicle to a character that already has that Chronicle?

Finally, doesn't using this system mean that if you played and GMed enough scenarios, you'd run out of adventures to gain credit from? (This is just a theoretic query.)

Hope I've made my question clear enough there.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You can only play a Scenario once per player and gain credit for it. (Notwithstanding the few Tier 1 scenarios or level 1 modules)

You can only GM a scenario once and get a chronicle for it. (Notwithstanding possible use of a GM star replay/rerun credit)

You can GM or play for credit in any order, but you only get a chronicle once for GM'ing and once for playing.

No character can have more than one of the same chronicle. So, if you play and get a chronicle and then GM for a chronicle, the second chronicle must be applied to a different character.

I hope that answers the basics of what you're looking for. Good luck and good gaming to you!

Thanks Sniggevert, that really clears that up. I'm quite surprised you can play a scenario after GMing it.

Do you still get to apply a Chronicle to a character when you GM a module or adventure path too?

Yes, though still only once (and once again for playing).

Yeah, it is a little harder to play stupid in a scenario you've already GM'd (sometimes several times) but it can also be fun to see how others run the scenario so you can steal ideas in incorporate them into your own running.

Generally I try to only play games I haven't run, but sometimes that's not an option, since I've run three to four times as many sessions than I've played.

In a perfect world, you'd be able to play scenarios before you run them, but it doesn't always happen.

It can definitely get a little confusing sometimes. And then when you get GM stars, you can run or play scenario's again for different credit! But it has to be on a different character than the one who originally got credit for said scenario (it doesn't matter if you applied it by GMing or playing).

It's purely so those people generous enough to 'eat' a scenario by GMing it first don't lose out.
