Estimating the cohort level of an RoW monster

I'm after advise and help calculating the equivalent cohort level for a Greater Witchcrow (long story), anyone willing to help?

My thinking:
5HD.
Hexing ability of a 5th level witch.
Spell casting ability roughly equivalent to a 4-5th level witch.
Cold resistant 5.
Reasonable melee attack.
Can fly.

So; take 5th level as a base, then add additional levels for flight 2(?), cold resistance 1(?), and the attack 1 (?).

Does 9th sound about right to people?

9th sounds a bit high. I'd probably peg it around 7th. At that level you can get a howler or a shae. At 8th, you can get an aranea, so 7th feels good. You could maybe argue for 6th.

Looking at the other monstrous cohorts, everything that can fly add at least 2 leveks onto its CR, I was figuring that the others haf to cost something too...

Ok, I've done some mucking about, trying out advancing the thing with additional HD and class levels to see what happens, and I'm going to work at CR+2 for its level equivalent. Thanks for the input. :)
