Legal Classes / Races

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hi all, new to Pathfinder, and I don't know a lot of the rules. I do organized play, and would like to know what classes and races are legal in it. I know there's some things that aren't allowed in it, and was wondering if there were any classes or races I couldn't do. Didn't really know where to post this, so I figured here would be a good shot.
Thanks!

Hi Luministrus-

You are looking for the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play. Read that. It answers these questions.

I suggest that, for your first character, you stick with the simplest option. A Human Ranger is an excellent choice for a new player. This approach starts out simple, and gradually adds more options as you gain experience.

Enjoy!

Pathfinder Society Additional Resources

The important thing to remember about that document is that you have to own a copy of the book whatever you wish to use comes from (print or pdf).

It can be a bit overwhelming for a new player, so let me try to answer your questions.
1) All races from the core rulebook along with Aasimar, Tengu, and Tieflings are legal for all players (if they have a book with one of those three races in them). You may see some players using other races: they have received special boons (usually at conventions) that allow them to play those races.
2) All base classes with the exception of the Antipaladin alternate class are legal (in organized play you are not allowed to play an evil character). Quite a few prestige classes are legal but some have altered prerequisites. Check out additional resources. Again, remember that you need to own the book to use something from it.

Good luck and have fun!
