Style Master

Advice

With Combat Style Master, can you use as many styles as you wish?

Give me some good examples of using animal Styles in conjunction with Combat Style Master?

Mine is Crane Wing + Snake Fang

Just so you know, crane style and its constituents are worthless now due to an errata of late.

The feat doesn't let you use more than one at a time, no.

Nope. Only the Master of Many Styles can use multiple Styles simultaneously.

But Combat Style Master DOES let you activate all your Styles in one round if you are a MoMS, or quickly swap between them if need be (such as using Panther to get across the battlefield, and activating Dragon when you get there to beat on somebody, and then Snake once your turn is over for defensive value).

Snake Style is still pretty sexy assuming you have the skills to spend on Sense Motive, though.

You can use as many styles as you want, but as indicated by MotDT you can't use them all at once. You'd have to be a Monk of Many Styles for that. I'm not sure if mixing styles is particularly worth it anymore though; as far as I can tell none of them synergize as well as Crane and Snake once did. You're likely better off just using your first 2 MoMS levels on Snake Style and Snake Fang and then moving somewhere else.

Of course Rynjin would probably know better

I'm a big fan of Snake/Dragon, since it has an offensive/defensive synergy...it increases the attack power of your AoOs, as well as normal attacks, while also having good defensive value when taking enemy attacks.

Not super good for most builds, but for a dedicated Unarmed build it works great.

Hmm... Yeah I can see that. I'd still probably take Snake Style and Snake Fang as my 1 and 2 bonus feats because Dragon Ferocity is a lot easier to qualify for naturally than Snake Fang. I'm not sure about the damage output of this though, with no flurry it's... questionable. I'd want to move to Brawler at some point. Either I'd switch out after 2 levels or I'd switch out after 8 and add Boar Style to the mix. This adds some more bleed damage and provides full physical coverage on my unarmed strikes.

After 8? Nah. After 2nd is probably your best bet still.

I had good luck with this build for it. You're basically dual wielding Longswords wielded in two hands with it.

Spoiler, not the link.

I used Crane/Dragon with Combat Style Master for my monk. As has been stated it was a lot better before Crane Wing was errata'd but with the rewording of Crane Riposte, it's still okay.

Oh. Combat Style Master cannot be used without Master of Many Styles?

...I just looked up the erreta'd version of Crane Wing and I am very disappointed. :(

Sure you can. You can use multiple styles over a combat round, just they can't be running at the same time in a round like they can with a MoMS.

I'm not sure I follow, can you give me an example?

You have Snake and Dragon Styles.

If you're a Master of Many Styles, you can use both simultaneously.

If you're not, you need to toggle one off before you can toggle another on.

Simple as that.

Essentially, with Combat Style Master what you do is use Dragon Style for your turn for damage and then switch to Snake Style at the end for the defensive bonuses.

It's not quite as good as the MoMS because that means you don't get the Dragon Style bonuses for your Snake Fang AoO's but it still works.

Understand.
