Looking for an "Official Ruling" on Vital Strike w / Overhand Chop

Rules Questions

I have a friend asking if he can perform Vital Strike with Overhand Chop, as per the Two-Handed Weapon Archetype for fighter, as the phrasing says "with an attack action" instead of "as an attack action".

Vital Strike wrote:

Vital Strike (Combat)

You make a single attack that deals significantly more damage than normal.

Prerequisites: Base attack bonus +6.

Benefit: When you use the attack action, you can make one attack at your highest base attack bonus that deals additional damage. Roll the weapon's damage dice for the attack twice and add the results together before adding bonuses from Strength, weapon abilities (such as flaming), precision based damage, and other damage bonuses. These extra weapon damage dice are not multiplied on a critical hit, but are added to the total.

Overhand Chop (Ex): At 3rd level, when a two-handed fighter makes a single attack (with the attack action or a charge) with a two-handed weapon, he adds double his Strength bonus on damage rolls. This ability replaces armor training 1.

Yes, both make use of a regular attack action. They do not state they are exclusionary so they are stackable.

Yup, look like it works. The attack action would be the Vital Strike, and it is indeed a single attack.

Liberty's Edge

I would like to add my support for this.

BigDTBone is spot on, but just to emphasize the important parts of what he said.

Vital Strike can hardly be combined with anything.

This is one thing, that it can be.

It is even thematically fitting.

Let it be.

Kidding...

VS works with Flyby Attack, I think.

Nice fine, Josh.
