What would a good location be to start a dwarven stronghold?
And what are your thoughts on stone masonry?
This is a P6 campaign so no spells above 3rd level. I'm more interested in mundane skills working together with the available spells.
How long do you think it would take to delve a defensible stronghold? Probably modifying a existing structure like vordakai's lair or an empty cave or something.
Probably goin to have a party of 4-5 PC dwarves. (There would be at least 1 PC "foreman" type with K(engineering/architecture) Prof(Stonemason) or the like.) once they claim a few hexes around the area they would send home to summon help for the forging of a new stronghold.
Any ideas on how many npc helpers to send and how they would progress? They could also use local help but the stone dressing and detailed work would be dwarven...
Thanks!
PS: anyone know of any good modules that contain a nice dwarven ruins/hold that is mapped out?

Go for the Gold Mine in the hills, it fits the theme of a starting dwarven kingdom.
Also Ultimate Rulership have rules about Exotic Settlements including Cavern City which are perfect for a Dwarf party!

1. Agree with T.A.U. - the gold mine is perfect. In my game I actually had
some Dwarves interested in anything Dwarven the PCs found, but specificallythey were willing to pay to take over mines etc. (i.e. I made it part of the
50BP start-up fund...)
2. Module - may or may not suit, but I have an old D&D3.0 book from the
Sword & Sorcery collection. It's called Burok Torn: City under siege.
It has a few maps which might be suitable (small holds), but also a butt-load
of 'Dwarfy' type fluff which might come in helpful too...

You might want to get your hands on the old D&D boxed set Dwarven Kingdoms of Krynn--lots of information, manymany maps...
Also, there's a certain expandable non-humanoid stronghold in #2 which might suit the needs of your party.
Ruyan.
Indeed, but be warned you probably won't be able to earn it until late in book 2.
