Aiming a spell, who it effects, etc.

Rules Questions

Hi all,

Had a recent session where there was some disagreement on how a spell works around corners and such, hoping for some clarification.

The setup was as follows:

Red is the enemy, all other colors are PCs. The spell cast is cone of cold spell. The solid black border is a wall. The two smaller black rectangles are doors that were opened. The GM announced that the monster cast cone of cold, and declared that everyone was hit.

Does the purple PC get partial cover against the spell?

Scarab Sages

Depends on where the cone originated from. If the cone originated at the right most corner of the monsters squares, and then went straight towards the purple player, then no. (pg. 196 of Core Rulebook under partial cover).

If it originated anywhere else, yes.

If they have any other questions, have them refer to the referenc image on page 194.

[edited for clairification]

The enemy can start the cone of cold in front of the orange player and then purple is a valid target. Purple is then in a direct line of the cone.

Purple is save with one step to the left or when the enemy starts CoC in front of the blue player.
