And I think that is why I got so irritated because the two who didn't show up aren't my friends. Sometimes it does feel like a job, for five week at the end of December to the beginning of January that is exactly what it was.
Sorry to hear that. I've been lucky enough to game with a couple of really great groups in recent years, all of whom I now consider my friends. It's good, sometimes, to remember how lucky I've been. Still, all said and done, maybe it's time to cut those guys loose. You said the other players had a great time. Maybe it's time for a new three-player campaign.

Did your players have fun, even if they got geeked?
If so, it doesn't matter if they got killed, everyone had a good time, and you can pick up with a session that is about recovering from this.
That's really the heart of it. As a GM, you can do whatever you like to help recover from this so over a year of game time isn't lost this close to the end. As long as people are having fun, who cares what the book says?

I have talked to the full complement of my players yesterday and gave some stern reprimands to those who were inconsiderate. I have devised a wholly plausible final battle scenario where every can get in the fun.
Here is how it will pan out, due to the choice of the party to allow Ameiko to be possessed earlier in the adventure both her and one of the party are going to be resurrected (our alchemist) he was an Amatatsu scion and because Ito/Ameiko is a Shojinawa scion he will be resurrected but the paladin and ninja because there weren't scions because the party did not open the seal since Brinewall because they were afraid of discovery.
The other player from the 4th and 5th books was running both a rogue and paladin and the rogue took the ninja coin and failed the saving throw and was expelled from the party during a side quest when he became evil by the paladin. I have had the rogue's quest to open the last part of the coin's power to be to assassinate the Jade Regent and the Raven Prince. Well hopefully they don't all get got... but if it happens I will have Minkai burn... :)
By the way what does get "geeked" mean?

Well, I've been following this thread closely.
By the way what does get "geeked" mean?
According to Urban Dictionary geeked has something to do with being excessively stimulated. I don't think that's what he means, however.
From Merriam Webster, geeked was first used in 1984 and related to being filled with excitement or enthusiasm. Given that neither seems to fit having a table "geeked" up, I'd assume the original adjective was a bit more *choice* than that.
Also, I know it's not worth anything, but while I disagree with how that final fight went, I empathize and understand the choices you make. I'm running my own campaign through JR right now, and we're a party of four not making much use of the NPCs. For when I get to any major encounter, I will keep your situation in mind. I'm not criticizing you in the slightest, but I'd rather learn from your experience and its fall out than have to endure it myself. Thanks for sharing the final** encounter and the circumstances that led up to it.
**The team's disastrous final encounter, not the last encounter in the game. I understand that they were not in the final fight.
