+20 Bonus to Perception for secret doors only on the first floor? To a room that he's already aware of? If anything he'd be more useful with the same skills for the dungeon if he wasn't in constant danger already in being obliterated.
Did anybody bring him along and have a positive experience with him?

My players missed the shadowblood, so Aron ended up giving them the map then disappearing.
Interestingly, I had Eustoriax tire of his Aron suit and he fed Aron to the vamps/shadows. The PCs came up on him with 1 Str, 1 Con, and as many negative levels as I could dump on him without dropping him into negative HP for his max HP.
And dominated by the vamp. So they had to figure out how to drop him and heal him without doing massive amounts of damage as they normally do.
