Question: What is this about lesser and greater magic items?

3.5/d20/OGL

I'm trying to place magic items in my campaign according to the book's rules and I started rolling them up and I hit a brick wall. The village has 3d4 minor items and 1d6 medium items. That's easy enough.

What are they? Well, I rolled that too. scrolls, weapons, etc.

But then what are they SPECIFICALLY?

Well there are two lists for each category:

Lesser Minor Magical Items
Greater Minor Magical Items
Lesser Medium Magical Items
Greater Medium Magical Items

Am I just arbitrating which one of these to pick? I cannot find a single reference to how to pick between these two. Is it a die roll?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It is a classification of items that can be found in the item tables in ultimate equipment as well as in the PRD listings under ultimate equipment.

EDIT: to expand a bit since I am no longer typing on my phone, you can find the PRD here.

And example of least minor, lesser minor, greater minor, lesser medium, greater medium, lesser major and greater major items can be seen in the Slotless Wondrous Item tables.

And my last edit got eaten ... the Treasure Generator has tables for not only coin/gems/etc, but also the tables to Potions/Oils, Scrolls and Wands of those classifications as well.

Also, since I just realized this was in the 3.5/d20 section, similar material can be for for the following:

3.5 WotC - grab the Magic Items RTFs.

d20 SRD - hop into the magic item sections and the tables will have the categories.
