I need some help with my next game

Hello everyone,

I am still learning on how to run pathfinder games. I know what I want to do for my next game but not sure on how to go about it. In my story I had a cleric go into a mine to bless it before the miners start digging another part of the tunnel. They ended up digging into a part of the cave where the drow where. Got captured and my group had to go in and rescue them. Now I want the group go into part of the cave where a drow summoned a demon and the demon is now summoning skeletons towards the group.

I am not sure how to go about this. I don’t want the to cleric to really be fighting directly in this part of the encounter. I want her to be cleansing or closing the portal or something like that and the group has to be fighting the skeletons to protect the cleric while she does something to stop the skeletons from continue to be summoned. Any suggestions on how to do this?

I kind of want this part to be like an onslaught and group has to protect the cleric.


It should be apparent, but you can make it more apparent.

Cleric you see a (description) portal over thar. You remember from your training that this is a (whatever) portal and demons can spawn through it or blah blah. You'll need to make (3 successful DC 15 k-religion? checks) or do X amount of positive energy damage (channeling) to it in order to close it.

Round 1: 1 skeleton trhough the portal of Doom-itude
Round 2: 2 skeletons come through
Round 3: 3 come through

Soon they are going into defensive mode and making sure you can do your job uninterrupted. And reeeally hoping you get this job done soon before they're overwhelmed and have to try to flee.

I did the reverse of this the other day and it worked out well for my Wednesday game.

The group had to fight there way into a mine/cave to get to something that was creating skeletons. I had The difficulty slowly build up as they pressed in. I think 7/9 members really enjoyed it. The other two really didn't have much there characters could do that game but, buff the other party members.


Is this an NPC cleric? If so have him/her yell out "I'll work on closing the portal; you guys keep skellies from overwhelming us!" Otherwise do what's mentioned above.


From what I interpetted its a npc they are aiding the party in buffing the mine or something
....

I see it as mmo type mission protect me while I stand here and get credit for saving day..
Or if you want and have time have cleric trying to close it PC's 'guarding ' it then have npc yell something along the lines of (its to powerful I'm being sucked in) have PC's grab hold attempt to pull him to safety and have npc and one or two PC's get dragged in then

They have to attempt to close it from inside

could be ran similiar to oblivion (elder scrolls) where they had to go into some portals climb a tower and destroy the focal crystal that was tying it to the material world then run like hell home

...

If you have time to add a story or map for this be awesome if not than standard I stand here meatshields watch my back and I give you a shiny

And this adds stuff that you can use later (I think)
