I thought you meant the book. NO!
Why? Was it the acting, the world building? The lack of KFC in product placement? The whole 'i met my dad' thing?
Frankly I think the fact the ambition of Woods character sets the groundwork for part two. One where the USA has publically attacked the idea the machine is alien tech so it will prevent rival states from investing in it while it manuvers to secretly exploit the hell out of it.

No. It was a boring hippyvision movie with a thin veneer of science fiction. I'd rather see a more realistic contact scenario.
And part two becomes the hippy crushing reality of what happens when ambitious politicians get their hands on it...
A parallel to government getting ther hands on the state after the hippies walk off thinking job done.

I've watched it several times... The only way to take it further would be the Alien Embassy/Invasion/whatever. of Earth. And that's not where Sagan or his wife would have wanted to go. There is no "Hannibal" in this film, or you're watching a very different movie than the title suggests.
And given that Carl Sagan is currently on the Deceased Authors list, questions of a sequel are moot.

The Hannibal film was the silence of the lambs film sequel (as opposed to red dragon).

The whole premise to the end of the book was stupid. If you print out pi in every base at every possible width you will eventually find a circle, or other pattern.

Given that the original Machine WAS built by a multi-national consortium, that cat was long out of the bag by the time the movie ended.

Didn't they question if the blueprints were an elaborate prank before the machine was even built?

If you paid attention to the background, the Machines WERE built and a lot of spinoffs were generated in the process of building the tech to get it done, much like the Apollo program did only more so. The sheer fact that the Machine was built was already having major economic impact in the form of those spinoffs and what they were doing to industry.(Japan for instance gives up it's shot at the Machine seat. in exchange for patents developed during the construction. and it was not the only country to do so.) The machine was not built in secret in Area 51 out of black funds, it was PUBLICLY built using corporate contracts.

Except that all the companies building it were hadden industries subsidiaries, or aquired by them...so hadden got control of the tech.
