Perception Check Bonuses

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Cards like the Night Watch give a bonus to Perception roles. The rules say that you cannot get a bonus to a skill that you do not have. Does that mean the cards like Night Watch are useless to characters without Perception? If they are not useless, what die are they adding to? If they are useless, then why is Night Watch in the wizard's starting deck?

Characters technically have all skills, even if unlisted. In those cases, the character rolls a 1d4.

I think what they mean by not getting bonuses to skills you dont have, is like how you can't benefit a skill that isn't listed by using skill feats
Sajan can't get bonuses to melee by putting points into strength.

Perhaps he was, but Night Watch doesn't give a bonus. It adds a die. So the probable reason for Night Watch being in Ezren's deck is because he doesn't have the Perception skill. He's outsourcing.

That's the way I understand it now. For example, my Sajan has a Soldier in his deck. Though Sajan doesn't have Melee listed as a skill, he can still roll a d4 for melee and have the soldier help on a check.
