I'm going to be running my Carrion Crown campaign soon, and I allowed two of my players to choose one of the less common races, as they were wanting to try something different. One ended up as a Samsaran Magus, the other is a Blue Psion, from the Dreamscarred Press material. I warned both players that in a superstitious place such as Ustalav, they may face negative reactions.
So, how would you handle this situation? The Magus is planning on hiding her identity, but as far as I know, the Blue goblin is not. How do you think the townspeople would react as they arrive in town for the funeral?

Actually, try something a friend did in one game.
A player in his game was playing a drow in his game. You had some villagers who didn't trust him, a couple did once he proved himself. But there was one woman that was obsessed with him. She'd give him discounts, make flirty passes at him. And then began stalking him on adventures and taking some of his innocuous items for her 'shrine'. At one point, she tried to feed him ale spiked with an elixir of true love. It was interesting because the player was worried more about her loving him than everyone else hating him :)

Well don't forget that The Haunting of Harrowstone uses a Trust score based of PC actions and a penalty could be applied for to the group for working with a goblin, the player might incur a penalty to Diplomacy/Knowledge checks with the locals. But once the adventures complete the town will probably respect if not honor the heroes, no matter their race.
