We are going to be starting up Wrath of the Righteous soon and I'm contemplating a fiery preacher type sermonizing and leading the battle from atop his mobile altar / war wagon. As early as possible, this might be a legendary item.
I know that it's hard fitting large creatures into some adventures, because of time spent in dungeons, etc. A vehicle would have even more restrictions than a creature: stairs could be hard to navigate, stealth would be unlikely, corridors could be filled, can't squeeze, etc.
For those in the know, would this adventure allow for a war altar, or should I abandon the concept?
As a Legendary Item, it could eventually be made Intelligent, granting it the ability to self-ambulate, fly, shapechange (turning into something equally large/huge), and summon it's own propulsion (Phantom steeds?). It could also be more durable, etc. It would be really fun to design.

back in 3.x I had a mercenary like captain whom had a 'warwagon.' Starting out just look at all the things a simple masterwork wagon can do. Its trample damage is crazy, there is space to build a little shrine stage if you wanted.. I had mine with a rotating light Balistae Really with a Dm's help/approval you can get crazy with simple things.
Save up money, make it darkwood, find a lot of mithral, plate it, make golems pull it. A lot you can do with it i promise

Might not work for a dungeon, but wait till about tenth level and convince Galfrey to fund your construction of one of these.

Hirelings to drive it? They dont necessarily have to be cohorts, im sure you could find a few crusaders as permanent attendants to stand guard when your in a cave or something. Do you leave your horses outside a dungeon when you go in? Same principle, just probably a bit more expensive if something does happen.
