How much converting of old Advenutre Paths to Pathfinder needed?

Conversions

Quick background, I don't have as much time to prepare for modules with all my books handy and working on taking notes as I do being able to read the modules, so doing full conversions myself I wouldn't have time for.., But I'm interested in running the old Adventure Paths

If you've got a feel for general power level when looking at stats, how important is it to really convert everything to Pathfinder?

As in, if something does 1d8 damage instead of 1d6, is missing a bunch of feats, has slightly off skill levels, and has the wrong # of spells by Pathfinder rules, I'm not concerned with it not matching Pathfinder as long as it's playable. I'd just think of it as the characters in this city at this time are a little different than the usual ones'... and for not-matching skills (spot/listen vs perception) I'd just use common sense.

With always having to adjust even new Adventure Paths when having not-4 PCs anyway, I'm getting used to adjusting the encounters by adding or subtracting a creature here and there, adjusting hit points, and the like.

Or are there other larger problems in playing these without more preparation in conversion work?

Edit: Where available I'd probably use conversion work that others have done already, though I notice the the later modules in a campaign usually have far less complete conversions than the beginning.

That depends on how exact you want things to be and most of the NPC's have already been converted over at d20pfsrd. All of them are not perfect, but most of them are close even if they are not exact.

I'm playing in a Second Darkness game that doesn't really do any conversion and it plays just fine. Conversion of grapple vs CMB is really the only thing that needs adjusting. Experience doesn't scale the same way so you will want to just hand out levels when it's appropriate for the story. You may want to keep an eye on how easy the encounters are because Pathfinder characters are more powerful than 3.5 characters of the same level. This is easily adjusted by letting your characters fall behind a level.
