Movement Speed

I GM a game. Last session, one of my players brought in a Human L3 Zen Archer (Monk Archetype)/L1 Emissary (Cavalier Archetype).

Monk says both "When wearing armor, using a shield, or carrying a medium or heavy load, a monk loses his AC bonus, as well as his fast movement and flurry of blows abilities." and that L3 monks get +10 movement speed.

Emissary says "In or Out of the Saddle (Ex)

At 1st level, an emissary gains Mounted Combat as a bonus feat. In addition, he can move at normal speed when wearing medium armor."

Does the Emissary ability cancel out the monk penalty for wearing medium armor? What is this character's speed?

The monk loses the ability when wearing armor, period. If it the monk ability said something like "loses this ability when his speed has been reduced by wearing armor" then it would work.

Your monk/cavalier with that archetype can move the full 30 feet when wearing medium armor, as opposed to 20. He does lose all of the monk abilities that would be canceled by wearing armor.
