Has anyone fully detailed any towns or cities? That is, they've accounted for every citizen (including giving them a name and class, background optional), shop, home, hut, hole in the ground, complete inventories of stores, homes, etc?
My mood at the moment has my eye set on Magnimar but that would be SUCH a huge undertaking even with a random name generator.

To be serious though, I would never do that. I could never do that. Currently working on a dwarven metropolis (about 70000 citizens). I have the most important citizens ( about 10) stated out, everyone else is Random McRandom (or Random Von Arbitrary, or Generico of Genericland), that I name at a time, note down, and save for later. My prep work on the city could fill 2 pages; by the time the campaign is finished, who knows?
MIght be worth it for a small village, or an island, where you KNOW the players will be there for a long time.
